Seven policemen have been suspended in relation to a case of custodial death in the Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh, reported ANI.

In a separate case, four cops from Alirajpur district were suspended for brutally torturing four youths and a teenager, according to The New Indian Express.

THE CUSTODIAL DEATH CASE

Seven cops were suspended in connection with the custodial death of a farmer, Suresh Rawat. All of them have been charged with the murder of the farmer, senior police officials told TNIE on Sunday.

The farmer, Suresh Rawat, and a Dalit farmer, Khemu Shakya, reportedly had a fight over an undisclosed issue on Saturday. When they went to the Belgarha police station to submit complaints, the police allegedly booked Rawat under the SC/ST Atrocities Act.

He was detained at the police station, and after just a few hours, was found hanging by the grill of the lock-up cell. At the hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Rawat’s relatives alleged that he was physically tortured by the policemen, who tried to extort money from him.
