Mumbai Monsoon: Heavy Rainfall to Continue, Says IMD

Three persons were killed and five injured in rain-related incidents on Friday,28 June, in Mumbai, which was lashed by the first spell of heavy rains this monsoon that marked its most delayed arrival in the city in 45 years, officials said.
Mumbaikars woke up to heavy rains, ending a long dry spell, but a few hours of incessant showers left the financial capital struggling with the familiar monsoon woes of waterlogging, delayed trains, traffic jams and choked drains.
While the Western and Central Railways have reported no major disruption in the city’s local train network, a few stations, including Kanjurmarg, have witnessed flooding of railway tracks.

Mumbai Gets its First Heavy Downpour of the Season
Three days after the onset of the monsoon in Mumbai was announced, the city received its first heavy downpour on Friday, 28 June. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, rains are expected to continue throughout the day with heavy and very heavy spells expected in certain parts of Mumbai.
Island City Received 43.23 mm and Suburbs 142 mm of Rainfall, Says BMC
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said the island city and suburbs received 33 mm and 95 mm of rainfall, respectively, by 1 pm on 28 June. Its weather station recorded an average rainfall of 43.23 mm in the island city, 64.14 mm in the eastern suburbs and 78.21 mm in the western suburbs, reports PTI.
According to private weather agency Skymet Weather, Santacruz received 96 mm of rainfall between 9 am and noon and Chembur and Ghatkopar observed 36.83 mm and 32.26 mm of rainfall by 1 pm, respectively.
Waterlogging at Andheri, Sion, Kings Circle, Hindmata
Several parts of Mumbai have been waterlogged, including Malad, Andheri, Saki Naka, Sion, Hindmata, Kings Circle, Khar and Kanjurmarg.
BMC Clears Waterlogging at Andheri Subway, Marol and Saki Naka
After briefly closing Andheri Subway due to waterlogging, the BMC has reported that excess water from the area has been drained. Marol and Saki Naka too have been cleared of waterlogging.
Three Injured After Wall Collapses in Dadar
Three people were injured after part of a wall collapsed at Meenatai flower market in Dadar, reports ANI. The victims were sent to KEM hospital where their condition has been deemed stable.
Traffic Diverted Due to Waterlogging
Traffic has been diverted in waterlogged areas including Hindmata Junction in Dadar, Sion Road No 24 and Gandhi Market in Sion, Sewri Marg, and National College lane in Khar.
Santacruz Observatory Records 140 mm of Rain in 9 Hours
Mumbai has received 140 mm of rainfall as recorded by the Santacruz observatory, reports Skymet Weather.
Two Dead, Three Injured After Being Electrocuted
Four members of a family were electrocuted at their home in Goregaon. Two succumbed to their injuries while the others are being treated, reports Times of India. In a separate incident, a 60-year-old woman was electrocuted at Anna Nagar near the RTO office at Four Bungalows in Andheri.

According to the civic official, the deceased were identified as Kashima Yudiyar (60), a resident of Andheri (East), Rajendra Yadav (60) and Sanjay Yadav (24) – both from Goregaon (East).
Two others suffered injuries in the Goregaon incident and were admitted to a local hospital, he said.
The police were inquiring into the Goregaon electrocution incident, he added.
Eastern Suburbs Receive 197 mm of Rainfall in 24 Hours
According to the BMC, Mumbai city received 127 mm of rainfall, the western suburbs 170 mm of rainfall and the eastern suburbs 197 mm of rainfall in 24 hours since heavy rain hit the city on 28 June.

Wall Collapses in Chembur; No Casualties Reported
A wall in Chembur collapsed on auto rickshaws at 2 am on 29 June, says ANI. No casualties were reported. Two cars were damaged at Punjabi Camp in Sion Koliwada after a tree fell on them.
No Disruption in Local Train Services: Western Railways, Central Railways
The Western and Central Railways have reported that train services have not been disrupted by waterlogging and are running normally across the Western, Harbour, Trans Harbour and Central lines.
