Thunderstorms in North and West India Ahead of Monsoon: MeT Dept
Monsoon is expected to cover all of India, except Kutch, by 30 June: IMD
The Indian Meteorological Department, on 27 June, predicted heavy thunderstorms across north and west India ahead of the monsoon, which is expected to hit the capital on 29 June.
Delhi-NCR
Skymet Weather predicted moderate rains in the capital on 27, 28, and 29 June, accompanied with warm to humid weather. The capital also witnessed a drizzle in parts late on 26 June and early on 27 June.
Uttar Pradesh
Heavy to very heavy rains are likely at isolated places in eastern Uttar Pradesh, while thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds may occur at some places in the western parts of the state on 27 June, the meteorological department said.
Rain and thunderstorm has been forecast at most places in the state on 28 June and 29 June, with monsoon’s entry into Uttar Pradesh predicted to be complete by 29 June.
The day temperatures were above normal in Varanasi, Faizabad, Allahabad, Lucknow, Bareilly, Moradabad and Meerut divisions on 25 June.
Rajasthan
Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in southeast Rajasthan and dust storms and thunderstorms with squally winds have been forecast at isolated places in north Rajasthan on 27 June.
Heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in Udaipur and Kota on 26 June, with light to moderate rainfall being recorded at a few places in the state in the last 24 hours, a Meteorological (MeT) Department official said.
Mumbai
Mumbai is expected to receive light showers with moderate spells of rain in parts. Other parts of Maharashtra including Vidarbha and Madhya Maharasthra are expected to receive scattered rains as well.
Rain in Mumbai may reduce but light showers with few moderate spells will continue. Scattered rains are also likely over Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra with isolated showers over Marathwada, Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Kolkata
Skymet Weather predicted light to moderate rains in Kolkata, as monsoon covers parts of the West and the Northeast.
West Bengal witnessed heavy rains in the past week. Five persons were killed in lightning strikes and a man drowned in a river in West Bengal on 25 June.
The state has witnessed heavy monsoon rains and thunderstorms, a state disaster management official told PTI.
Punjab
According to the MeT department, rains or thunder showers are likely at many places in Haryana and Punjab on 27 and 28 June, PTI reported.
Temperatures dropped slightly, on 26 June, at most places in Punjab and Haryana after few parts of the two states were lashed by light to moderate rains.
Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, which received light rains, recorded a maximum of 38.2 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological (MeT) department rtold PTI.
Himachal Pradesh
Rainfall will occur at most places over lower and mid hills of Himachal Pradesh on 27 June and at few places over the high hills of the state from 28 to 30 June, the MeT Department told PTI.
Pre-monsoon thunderstorm and rains have commenced in most parts of Himachal Pradesh and conditions are favourable for the arrival of southwest monsoon in the state, the Meteorological (MeT) department told PTI on 26 June.
Light to moderate rainfall occurred over parts of Himachal Pradesh, including districts of Chamba, Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Solan and Shimla, and widespread rains are expected on 27, 28, 29, and 30 June due to the onset of pre-monsoon, Director of local MeT office Manmohan Singh added.
