PM Modi Reaches China After Finishing His Maiden Visit to Vietnam
Modi has left for China to attend the two-day G20 summit that will witness top leaders discussing global issues.
After finishing his two-day maiden visit to Vietnam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in China on Saturday to attend the G20 summit, beginning on Sunday.
India’s entry into the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and its concern over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) are expected to be raised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The first leg of his 2-nation tour witnessed India and Vietnam signing 12 agreements for cooperation in areas including defence and IT, to boost bilateral ties on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced a new line of credit of $500 million for Vietnam to facilitate deeper defence cooperation.
He is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the communist nation in 15 years. Bilateral ties were also upgraded to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Vietnam currently has Comprehensive Strategic Partnership only with Russia and China.
The Prime Minister’s final engagement during the visit was a call on Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party.
The two-day G20 summit beginning on Sunday in China city of Hangzhou will see Modi join US President Barack Obama, Chinese President Xi Jinping along with other top world leaders to discuss global efforts needed to boost economic growth and trade.
