Two men were allegedly beaten up by a group of around 40 people suspecting that the duo tried to abduct a 15-year old boy from their neighbourhood near Malappuram, with police booking them on attempt to murder charges and arresting three.

Police on Tuesday, 17 September said the incident occurred on Monday and the two victims - Rahamatulla and Safarulla, in their mid-20s, had been hospitalised with injuries.

The boy had reportedly complained to the police that some people tried to take him forcibly in a car while he was on his way to school.

Based on CCTV footage, police had asked the two men to come to the station for questioning. While travelling to the police station in a car, they were waylaid, pulled out of the vehicle and beaten up by the group of people.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered against around 40 people involved in the attack and three of them have been arrested, police added.
