‘Too Little Too Late’: Rahul Dismisses Modi’s ‘Gau Bhakti’ Remark
A day after #NotInMyName protests took place across India, PM Modi condemned killing over ‘gau bhakti’.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke his silence on the numerous incidents of lynching that have taken place all over India over allegations of eating beef and trading cattle illegally, a day after Indians across the country and abroad protested against rising instances of cow vigilantism.
Despite Modi’s stern condemnation of the killings in the name of “gau bhakti”, many are not entirely convinced if Modi’s statement is enough to stop the killings.
Rahul Gandhi, who is on a holiday in Italy, said that it has taken Modi too long to condemn the killings.
Many citizens demanded the enactment of Masuka Law, which not only defines 'mob lynching', but also seeks to make it a non-bailable offence.
Some raised concerns that Modi’s statement will not have any effect whatsoever, noting that despite his earlier condemnation, cow vigilantism had only increased further.
