Continuing the tradition, Udhayanidhi Stalin is all set to be the youth wing secretary of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party. This is a post his father, DMK chief, MK Stalin held for 35 years.

Udhayanidhi happens to be the 4th member of the political family that holds an important post in the party:

  • MK Stalin’s sister, Kanimozhi is a Lok Sabha parliamentarian
  • His nephew Dayanidhi Maran is a three-time parliamentarian and former union minister.
  • His elder brother MK Alagiri has been a parliamentarian.

Vellakovil Saminathan, ex youth wing secretary resigned last month citing ‘personal reasons’, according to NDTV.

Udhayanidhi Could Draw Youngsters to the Party

Although the DMK has been accused of dynastic politics, many are happy with Udhayanidhi’s appointment as he was one of the star campaigners seeking votes for the party in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections.

“It’s not a question of nepotism. Politically, Udhayanidhi Stalin has proved his mettle like his father Stalin... he campaigned extensively in the recently held elections. He should be rewarded for his work.”
Senior DMK Leader told <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/tamil-nadu-news/mk-stalins-son-udhayanidhi-stalin-to-head-dmk-youth-wing-that-his-father-led-for-35-years-2063935">NDTV</a>
“To draw youth to the party in these days of indifference we need a face, and he being an actor would be able to draw youngsters. He has in a sense earned this by working a bit for this.”
