An army jawan, Lance Naik Brajesh Kumar, and two militants were killed in an encounter in North Kashmir’s Sopore, news agency ANI reported. The encounter began early on Friday, 26 October, in the Malganipora area of Sopore in Baramulla district.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Pazalpora village of Dangiwacha town after a tip-off about the presence of militants in the area, a police official told PTI.

The gunfight is ongoing, the official added.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire at the soldiers, who retaliated.

Internet services were suspended in the area as a precautionary measure, according to India Today. Two to three militants are believed to be trapped inside a house, the report said.

The operation was being jointly conducted by the army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR), special operations group of police (SOG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
