Two people were arrested on Wednesday, 11 September after a mob allegedly thrashed three men in Delhi's Shaheen Bagh area on suspicion of being child-lifters, police said, according to PTI.

The incident took place on Tuesday, 10 September. The accused were identified as Aslam (24) and Abuzar (22), residents of Abdul Fazal Enclave, the police said.

The victims – Deepak (30), Ranjeet (30) and Shiv Kumar (22) were beaten up by people in the locality after they became suspicious about their appearance and took them to be child-lifters.

They were handed over to the police later.

The police official said, “The three men are between 30-32 years old and belong to Bahadurgarh. They play 'dhol' for a living. After immersing the Ganesh idol, they had come out to eat in the area when the public labelled them 'child-lifters' and attacked them,” according to ANI.

A case was registered at Shaheen Bagh police station on the basis of Deepak's statement, the police official said.
