Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar went to Srinagar’s Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital to meet injured civilians, on Thursday, but was shown the exit door by a hostile crowd of volunteers and attendants who asked him to leave the hospital, The Indian Express reported.

“We don’t shake hands with murderers,” attendants told Aiyar, according to a doctor.

Volunteers in the hospital raised slogans of aazadi and “Go India, go back”, when the ten member delegation which included social activist Shabnam Hashmi, former Air vice-marshal Kapil Kak and journalist Prem Shankar Jha walked into wards.

The “civil society members” were the first Indian delegation to visit the hospital since protests erupted following the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani.

The ongoing unrest in Kashmir has resulted in the deaths of 66 civilians.

On Thursday, a 30-year-old lecturer identified as Shabir Ahmad Moonga was allegedly beaten to death by security forces who had detained dozens of people after a late night raid.
