Delhi Police Releases Kashmiri Man Detained Near Parliament

A Kashmiri man, who was detained near Parliament over suspicious behaviour was released on Thursday, 27 August, reported The Hindu. He had been detained after security personnel found a piece of paper with characters that appeared to be codes.
“He was questioned by the Delhi police and other intelligence agencies for verification. The two IDs — an Aadhaar card, belonging to him and a driving licence of his elder brother were found. After getting his verification done with the help of the Kashmir police, he was handed over to a local guardian,” the Delhi Police told The Hindu.
While the man had reportedly told the police that he was from Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam, he was inconsistent about when he first came to Delhi.
According to the report, the man helps economically challenged families in holding weddings of their daughters back in Kashmir. He reportedly came to Vijay Chowk hoping to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi or a senior minister to get more financial assistance.
He lives near Jama Masjid and had returned to the city 25 days ago, following the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
