Malayalam Writer and Poet Ashita Passes Away at 63

Celebrated Malayalam writer and poet Ashita passed away at the age of 63 in Thrissur on Wednesday, 27 March, after fighting a long battle with cancer.

News agency ANI reported that she passed away at 12:55 am in a private hotel. She was undergoing treatment for cancer.

The prolific and well-known poet and author wrote 20 books including poems, translations and works of children’s literature. Some of the most famous titles include Apoorna Viramangal and Vismaya Chhihnangal.

She was the recipient of myriad awards, and some include the Padmarajan Award - Thathagatha (2000), Lalithambika Antharjanam Award (1994) and Edaserri Award (1986), reported ANI.

Ashita was born on 5 April 1956, in Thrissur, and had done her graduation and post-graduation in English literature from Maharaja's College, Ernakulam.
