Lawyer Yashpal Singh was arrested on Tuesday for assaulting journalists and supporters of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) supporters outside Patiala House Court on Monday, 15 February.

He was seen in a sting operation video by the India Today group with lawyers Vikram Singh Chauhan. In the video (3:00 minute) , three lawyers agreed to have assaulted Kanhaiya Kumar inside the court for around three hours on the same day.

He was also seen in a video with other lawyers, including Vikram Singh Chauhan, assaulting journalists for their “anti-nationalism”.

Yashpal Singh in the sting operation video has said that he will continue to target Kanhaiay Kumar even if he is in jail. Yashpal Singh had expressed wish to enter the same jail as Kanhaiya Kumar only to be able to hit him by not filing bail bond.

Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail plea was dismissed on Tuesday and will be heard on Wednesday in the Delhi High Court.

Two other students charged with sedition – Umar Khaled, Anirban Bhattacharya – surrendered on late Tuesday night. Earlier on Tuesday, Khaled had appealed to the High Court to provide protection to be able to surrender.
