1. Trump and Kim Shake Hands, Months After Trading Insults

A firm handshake, a gesture that would've probably been unthinkable a few months ago. This handshake set the historic summit in Singapore in motion, a summit that the whole world has tuned in to watch.

And why wouldn't they? This is the first time ever that the sitting leaders of North Korea and the US have met – US President Donald Trump held one-on-one talks and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Trump described his historic talk with Kim Jong Un as 'very, very good', as the two leaders met for a summit at Singapore’s Sentosa island on Tuesday, 12 June, over the future of Pyongyang’s nuclear programme.

This comes months after they traded insults and nuclear sabre-sattling.

2. RSS Defamation Case: Rahul Pleads Not Guilty, Charges Framed

A Bhiwandi court in Thane, on 10 June, framed charges against Congress president Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case filed by Rajesh Kunte of Rashtriya Swyamsevak Sangh (RSS). The court will hear the case next on 10 August.

The charges have reportedly been filed under Section 499 and Section 500 (Punishment for defamation) of the Indian Penal Code. Gandhi, however, pleaded not guilty before the court, reported ANI.

Speaking to the reporters outside the court, Gandhi said that his fight against the government was for the farmers and the employment of the country’s youth.

3. Vajpayee Responding to Treatment, Condition Stable: AIIMS Bulletin

A health bulletin released by AIIMS for Atal Bihari Vajpayee stated that the former PM is stable and is responding to treatment. It also said that he is on injectable antibiotics and will be hospitalised till his infection is controlled.

After Congress President Rahul Gandhi visited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Monday, 11 June, BJP bigwigs PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah made a beeline to the hospital.

Vajpayee, who has been ailing for some time, was admitted to AIIMS on Monday where he was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, according to an official statement by the hospital.

4. Didn’t Get Through IIT? Hey, Why Don’t You Try Harvard Instead?

Not even a 95 percent is enough to guarantee you admission in a top Delhi University college. Part of the reason is that the number of seats available at top Indian colleges is less than the number of chips inside a potato chips pack!

Consider for example, the NEET or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, an entrance examination for all medical and dental courses in the country. This year, it had 66,000 seats on offer. The number of applicants who applied? 13 lakh or 1.3 million.

The JEE Main, on the other hand, saw 1.2 million applicants take the exam, who were fighting for no more than 10,500 seats.

So many hopefuls, so few seats. Gosh, there is a better chance of getting stag entry into a five-star club than getting into a decent Indian college!

But even though IITs may seem too distant a dream for some, Harvard is looking like a more realistic option.

5. Kejriwal Spends Night at L-G Office, Demands Officers End Stir

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal released a video message for Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, from inside the L-G’s house Raj Nivas, where he was protesting since Monday night, 11 June.

Kejriwal and his Cabinet colleagues spent Monday night at Baijal’s office as their sit-in protest to demand a direction to IAS officers to end their “strike”, and that action be taken against officers who have been boycotting work for "four months".

Kejriwal added that his government has written to the L-G multiple times to urge him to get the strike terminated. The Aam Aadmi Party’s second demand was the home-delivery of ration to the people of Delhi.
