CBSE Class 12 Results Out, Three Girls Emerge Toppers

The results for the CBSE Class 12 examinations were announced on Saturday, 26 May. The first three spots were bagged by all girls and all, with Meghna Srivastava, emerging first with a score of 499 of 500.

Speaking to ANI, she said: “There is no secret, you just have to work hard throughout the year.”

China Orders Crackdown on Outdoor Religious Statues

China's ruling Communist Party has ordered the provincial governments to regulate construction of large outdoor religious statues in a bid to prevent "commercialisation" of Buddhist and Taoist religions, official media reported today.

Both Buddhism and Taoism have been officially recognised in Communist China with thousands of temples, even though they were subjected to heavy crackdown during the Cultural Revolution (1966-76) headed by Communist Party of China (CPC) founder Mao Zedong to cleanse China of its spiritual past.

Local governments have been asked to ramp up efforts to regulate the construction of new large outdoor religious statues, the United Front Work Department (UFWD) of the CPC directed.

Bomb Scare at Kolkata Metro Railway Station

An abandoned can lying near an escalator at Rabindra Sadan station on Saturday, 26 May created a flutter as commuters suspected it to be a bomb which turned out to be a hoax, Metro Railway officials said.

However, train services remained unaffected, a Metro Railway spokesperson said.

Police said soon after receiving information at around 11.10 am, bomb squad officials with sniffer dog reached the spot and began investigation.

A detailed report is awaited.

Harvey Weinstein Granted Bail

Disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein has been released on $1 million bail after being charged with rape and sexual abuse.

Weinstein, 66, also agreed to wear a GPS tracker and to surrender his passport after turning himself in to police on Friday, reports bbc.com.

He pleaded not guilty to charges of first- and third-degree rape and committing a criminal sexual act in the first degree at his arraignment.

Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct by more than 70 women, with some of the allegations dating back decades. He has denied ever having non-consensual sex.

Kairana Bypolls: Bjp Mp Booked for Violation of Model Code of Conduct

BJP MP Kanta Kardam was booked for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct by inciting religious sentiments in her speech on Tuesday, police said today.

Nukud Police Station SHO Yashpal Singh said a case was registered against Kardam on the directives of the Election Commission.

Kardan had allegedly made the remarks inciting religious sentiments during an election meeting at Nukud town in Saharanpur district, the police said.

China's Satellite, Aimed to Explore Moon's Dark Side, Successfully Enters Orbit

China's relay satellite, on an ambitious lunar exploration mission, has successfully braked near the Moon, completing a vital step before entering a desired orbit, space officials said on Saturday, 26 May.

Queqiao, the 400-kg satellite which has a designed life of three years, was launched on Monday, 22 May to enable a rover to communicate with the Earth from the Moon's mysterious far side, as part of the Communist giant's ambitious goal of being the first country to send such a probe.

It braked 100 km above the surface of the Moon in line with instructions from a ground control centre in Beijing, and then entered a transfer orbit from the moon to the second Lagrangian (L2) point of the Earth-Moon system, the China National Space Administration said.

Court Grants Interim Bail to 3 Accused in Bhanwari Devi Case

A Jodhpur court has granted interim bail for three days to the three main accused in the 2011 abduction and murder case of Bhanwari Devi in Rajasthan.

The trial court granted bail to Malkhan Singh Bishnoi, Parasram Bishnoi and their sister Indira Bishnoi to allow them to attend a condolence meeting of their aunt at their ancestral Tilwasni village near Jodhpur.

The bail period begins on Saturday, 26 May and the trio would have to return to the authorities by the evening of May 28.

"All this period, they will remain under strict police watch," the government counsel said.
