Officer Among 4 BSF Personnel Killed in Pak Rangers Firing Along IB in Samba

Four Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, including an officer, were killed and three others injured in unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers along the International Border (IB) in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior BSF officer said on Wednesday, 13 June.

"Pakistan Rangers initiated cross-border firing along the IB in Ramgarh sector last night. We have lost four of our personnel, including an assistant commandant rank officer, while other 3 of our personnel suffered injuries," IG, BSF (Jammu Frontier) Ram Awtar told PTI.

He said Pakistan Rangers and the BSF had recently agreed to ensure ceasefire along the IB, but the former violated it by initiating cross-border firing.

Prominent Bangladeshi Blogger Murdered

A prominent secular Bangladeshi blogger, Shahzahan Bachchu, was killed by some unknown attackers on Monday, 11 June, reported ANI.

As per Daily Star Tribune, the 60-year-old was shot dead in his ancestral village of Kakaldi in Munshiganj district. His murder was the latest in a series of murders of secular activists and bloggers of the country. Bachchu owned a publishing house named Bishaka Prokoshani.

According to ANI, he had reportedly gone to meet a friend at a pharmacy shop near his home, when the attackers blasted a crude bomb outside to create a distraction. The attackers then dragged the blogger out and shot him.

Counting of Votes Have Begun for Jayanagar Assembly Constituency

Counting of votes have begun for Jayanagar Assembly constituency here, where election was held on 11 June.

The Assembly elections were held across Karnataka on 12 May, but poll in Jayanagar was countermanded following the death of BJP candidate B N Vijayakumar, who was holding the seat.

An estimated 55 per cent polling was recorded in the constituency on 11 June.

17 Dead, 20 Injured After Bus Overturns in Uttar Pradesh

At least 17 people were killed and 20 injured when a bus overturned after hitting a divider in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri on the morning of Wednesday, 13 June, police said.

The ill-fated bus carrying around 60-70 people was on its way to Farrukhabad from Jaipur in Rajasthan, Mainpuri Additional Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Singh told PTI.

"The bus overturned after hitting a divider in Tirathpur village located almost 25 km from the district headquarters on the Mainpuri-Etawah road, at around 5.30 am,” he said.

"If the United States and North Korea can return from the brink of a nuclear flashpoint, there is no reason why Pakistan and India cannot do the same ... beginning with a dialogue on Kashmir whose heroic people have resisted and rejected Indian occupation," Shahbaz Sharif said in a series of tweets.

He further said: "It is time for comprehensive peace talks in our region. International community must focus on the peace process in Afghanistan. Dialogue between Pakistan and India over Kashmir should also resume so that the long-festering Kashmir dispute is resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions."

At Least 12 Killed in Landslides in Bangladesh's Rangamati

At least twelve people were killed in landslides in different areas of the hilly district of Rangamati in Bangladesh while two people were killed in Cox's Bazar.

Rangamati Civil Surgeon Shahid Talukder said the victims could not be identified yet and rescue and relief teams were struggling to reach people due to difficult terrain.

Most of the victims were buried under mud when surrounding hills gave way after a deluge. Officials said that the death toll could increase in Rangamati district, which has been cut off from the rest of the country due to debris on the roads caused by landslides.

A senior official in Bangladesh's refugee relief and repatriation commission, said that around 1,500 shacks have been damaged or destroyed since the weekend due to the rain.

It's a Conspiracy: Akhilesh Yadav on Damage to Govt Bungalow

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today slammed the BJP over reports of damage to the bungalow vacated by him in the state capital, terming it as a "conspiracy" by the saffron party.

"The BJP it is rattled after repeated defeats in a series of by-elections," the SP leader said at a hurriedly convened press conference here.

"It is the BJP's conspiracy," he charged.

His outburst came a day after UP Governor Ram Naik asked the state government to take action over the reported damage to the bungalow vacated by the former chief minister, calling it a serious matter involving the taxpayer's money.

Prime Accused in Assam Lynching Case Arrested

The prime accused in the lynching of two men in Assam was arrested from Karbi Anglong district in the early hours of Wednesday, 13 June, a senior police officer said.

Karbi Anglong Police arrested the prime accused, Joz Timung alias 'Alpha', from Belurghat area under the jurisdiction of the same Dokmoka Police Station where the incident had taken place, Superintendent of Police S P Ganjala said.

Timung was allegedly responsible for asking villagers over phone to stop the vehicle carrying the two men and spreading rumours of them being child lifters, the SP said.

Son of Witness in Asaram Case 'Abducted'; Returns Home

The son of a witness in the murder of Kripal Singh, a key onlooker in a rape case involving self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, was allegedly abducted from Shahjahanpur on Monday, 11 June police said on Wednesday, 13 June.

16-year-old Dheeraj Vishkarma was allegedly abducted from here when he was standing before his house, police said, adding that a case in this connection was filed on Tuesday.

Dheeraj is the son of Ramshankar Vishkarma, witness in the murder of Kripal Singh, who was shot dead on 10 July, 2015.

Meanwhile, the boy is said to have returned home, giving a slip to his alleged captors who have taken him to Meerut.

PM Modi To Visit Bhilai on Thursday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Chhattisgarh on Thursday, 14 June and dedicate the modernised and expanded Bhilai steel plant to the nation.

He will also lay the foundation stone of a permanent IIT-Bhilai campus and unveil a plaque to mark the launch of the phase-2 of BharatNet, a project which envisages to connect gram panchayats with underground optical fibre network.

The prime minister will inaugurate air services between Jagdalpur and Raipur. He will distribute laptop computers, certificates and cheques to beneficiaries under various schemes and address a public meeting.

Before reaching Bhilai, Modi will visit Naya Raipur smart city, where he will inaugurate the integrated command and control centre for the city.

ED Files Chargesheet Against Karti Chidambaram in Aircel-Maxis Case

The Enforcement Directorate filed a charge sheet in a Delhi court against Karti Chidambaram in the Aircel-Maxis money laundering case.

Additional Sessions Judge Ruby Alka Gupta said that it would consider the charge sheet on 4 July.

Apart from Karti, the agency has also named four other in its charge sheet under section 4 (Punishment for money-laundering) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The ED has mentioned the name of former union minister P Chidambaram at various places in the charge sheet but he has not been arrayed as an accused in the case.

2 Men Lynched in Aurangabad District on Suspicion of Being Robbers

According to police, two men were allegedly beaten to death and seven others were injured, one of them critically, after a mob of villagers attacked them on suspicion of being robbers in Chandgaon village in Vaijapur taluka on 8 June.

Police said a mob of at least 1,500 villagers allegedly attacked nine men with wooden sticks after nabbing them from near a farm in the village on morning of last Friday.

A Vaijapur police station official said some fake messages about the presence of a "gang of robbers" were doing rounds on Whatsapp and the incident was fallout of these rumours.

Nepal's PM to visit China from 19th to 24th June

Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Oli will pay a five-day official visit to China from 19 June, his second trip to a foreign country after India since taking power in the Himalayan nation.

Oli, who is considered pro-Beijing, has been invited by Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang. He will hold talks with him and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
