Man, Wife Arrested for Supplying Beef in UP Town

A man and his wife were arrested for allegedly supplying beef in Chosana town in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said on Thursday.

During a raid on Wednesday, 40 kg of beef was seized from a fridge in their house. The man was also booked for cow slaughter, said Ravinder Kumar, who is the in-charge of an outpost under the Jhinjhana police station.

Will Hear Pleas Challenging CAA After Arguments in Sabarimala Matter Over: SC

The Supreme Court on Thursday said it will hear pleas challenging the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) after arguments in the Sabarimala matter are over.

A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde said this after senior advocate Kapil Sibal sought urgent hearing of CAA matters and said that till date, the Centre has not filed a reply in the matter.

Attorney General K K Venugopal told the bench also comprising justices B R Gavai and Surya Kant that the Centre would be filing a reply in a few days.

A nine-judge bench is re-examining various religious issues, including the entry of women into the Sabarimala temple and mosques, and the practice of female genital mutilation in the Dawoodi Bohra community.

SC to Set up Vacation Bench During 7-Day Holi Break to Hear Urgent Matters

The Supreme Court on Thursday said it will set up a vacation bench for the seven-day Holi break to hear urgent matters.

A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde said it will not be on the day of Holi but during the week.

Till now, the apex court had a vacation bench during the summer break of nearly two months.

The CJI made the statement after a lawyer mentioned a case and sought urgent hearing.

RBI Supersedes Board of Yes Bank, Appoints SBI CFO as Administrator

The Reserve Bank of India on Thursday superseded the board of troubled lender Yes Bank with immediate effect, a central bank statement said. It also appointed former SBI CFO Prashant Kumar as administrator for the bank.

The RBI also imposed a moratorium on Yes Bank and capped withdrawals at Rs 50,000, sources said.

The private sector lender has been grappling with mounting bad loans.

The person wasn't authorised to speak about Warren's intentions and talked to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

Warren's exit extinguished hopes that Democrats would get another try at putting a woman up against President Donald Trump.

The Indian Army resorted to artillery firing on key posts of the Pakistani military across the Line of Control as part of punitive retaliation to unprovoked ceasefire violations, sources said on Thursday.

The artillery was fired on Pakistani posts in the Tangdhar and Poonch sectors on 24 and 25 February, the sources said.

India has adopted a tit-for-tat posture in replying to ceasefire violations by Pakistan, officials said.
