Hans Raj Bhardwaj, former Governor of Karnataka and Union Law Minister, passed away at the age of 82.
Bhardwaj breathed his last at the Max Hospital, Saket, where he was admitted since Wednesday due to Kidney-related issues, his family told PTI.
He will be cremated at the Nighambodh Ghat on Monday at 4 pm, his son Arun Bhardwaj said.
He is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.
The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Tuesday quashed the detention of three people, including the spokesperson of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami, under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Besides Zahid Ali, the Jamaat spokesperson, the detention of district president of Bandipora Jamaat-e-Islami Sikander Malik and Samir Wani, an overground worker of a militant organisation based in Pulwama, were also quashed.
The order was passed by Justice Rashi Rabstan.

A Jharkhand court on Tuesday handed down death sentence to three men for raping a six-year-old girl, killing her, and burying her body, a judgment that came in less than a month after the crime was committed.
Dumka District and Sessions Judge Taufik ul Hassan awarded capital punishment to Mithu Rai, an uncle of the victim, Pankaj Mohali and Ashok Rai, and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on each of them after convicting them of the crime under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Revenue Secretary ABP Pandey was on Tuesday designated as the Finance Secretary, according to a Personnel Ministry order.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved designating Pandey, a 1984 batch IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre, as Finance Secretary, it said.
The senior-most bureaucrat among all secretaries in the Finance Ministry is designated as the Finance Secretary.

A coordination panel comprising senior leaders of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance in Maharashtra will look into various aspects of the National Population Register (NPR), Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said here on Tuesday.
Addressing media in Vidhan Bhawan in south Mumbai, where the budget session of the state legislature is underway, Thackeray also declined to comment on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement that he was thinking of quiting social media.
"Responsible leaders of the three parties will be part of it (coordination committee on NPR)," Thackeray said.

A jail official was thrashed as he tried to stop violent clashes between two groups of inmates of the Baruipur correctional home in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, officials said on Tuesday.
Sub Jailer Shyamal Bhattacharya was beaten up when he intervened as clashes broke out between the two groups on Monday evening, they said.
The prisoners then started hurling stones and vandalised parts of the correctional home, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in November 2018, the officials said.
Bhattacharya has been admitted to the Baruipur sub- divisional hospital.

A most wanted criminal, who was carrying a reward of Rs 6.5 lakh on his head, was arrested along with his three accomplices from Gurgaon on Tuesday morning, police said.
Jitender Maan alias Gogi was arrested along with Kuldeep Naan alias Fajja, Kapil alias Gaurav and Rohit alias Koi.
The Special Cell was on the trail of Gogi, Fajja and Gaurav for a long time and on Tuesday morning traced them to Gurgaon, and surrounded their hideout, a senior officer said.
Finding no escape route, they surrendered before police, he added.

The US has charged two Chinese nationals with laundering over USD 100 million worth of cryptocurrency from an exchange of the virtual currency which was hacked.
The funds were stolen by North Korean actors in 2018.
In the two-count indictment unsealed Monday in the District of Columbia, Tian Yinyin and Li Jiadong were charged with money laundering conspiracy and operating an unlicensed money transmitting business, the Department of Justice said.

At least 11 civilians were killed in Russian air raids on northwestern Syria Monday, a monitor said, as Syrian regime forces re-entered a key town days after losing it to rebels.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor, said regime forces had wrested back full control of Saraqeb.
"Regime forces with Russian air cover were able to retake complete control of the town of Saraqeb on the Damascus-Aleppo highway," it said.
