A fire broke out in a highrise tower in Gurugram on Sunday night which claimed the life of 32-year-old interior designer, Swati Garg, reported The Indian Express.
Garg helped others escape to safety to the building’s upper floors but couldn’t escape as she got trapped in the stairwell filled with thick smoke.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday, 9 October, forecasted a growth rate of 7.3 percent for India in the current year of 2018 and that of 7.4 percent in 2019.
In 2017, India had clocked a 6.7 percent growth rate.
"India's growth is expected to increase to 7.3 percent in 2018 and to 7.4 percent in 2019 (slightly lower than in the April 2018 World Economic Outlook [WEO] for 2019, given the recent increase in oil prices and the tightening of global financial conditions), up from 6.7 percent in 2017," the IMF said in its latest World Economic Outlook report.

Pakistan says it will seek a bailout loan from the International Monetary Fund to address a mounting balance of payments crisis.
Finance Minister Asad Umar said Monday he will hold talks with IMF officials later this month.
Analysts say Pakistan hopes to secure $8 billion in loans to avoid an economic meltdown. It also wants fresh loans from China, which has already invested heavily in roads and the energy sector.

The depression over the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday, 9 October, intensified and moved towards Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast before taking the shape of a cyclonic storm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The excise duty cut on petrol and diesel is credit negative for India as it will reduce government revenue and increase fiscal deficit by 0.1 percent to 3.4 percent of GDP in the year ending March 2019, Moody's Investors Service said on Tuesday, 9 October.
Also, the earning of public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) would be "negatively affected" as they also absorbed Rs 1 per litre cut in their pricing, Moody's said.

Parents of students of a South Kolkata school held massive protests on Tuesday, 9 October, after a minor girl was allegedly molested by a male teacher a few days ago. The accused has been arrested by the police.
The police had a tough time controlling agitated family members of the victim who tried to force their way into the school, located in the southern part of the city, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast division) Kalyan Mukherjee said.
The police also used batons to disperse the agitators and three people were arrested for attacking the police personnel and destroying public properties.
