Shooter in Texas Massacre Said He Was Targeting Mexicans

The 21-year-old Texan who killed 22 people in an El Paso Walmart told police following his arrest that he was targeting "Mexicans," according to an arrest warrant published Friday by US media.

The document charging Patrick Crusius, of Allen, Texas, with murder also described the circumstances of his arrest, saying he stepped out of his vehicle when surrounded by police, put his hands up and said "I'm the shooter." At police headquarters, Crusius waived his right to remain silent or have a lawyer present and told detectives that "his target (was) 'Mexicans,'" according to the document, obtained by The Washington Post and others.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu left from All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS) after visiting former Union Minister Arun Jaitley, early 10 August morning. Jaitley is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit, ANI reported.

CNN News18 reported that Jaitley’s health had stabilised.

Delhi Man Arrested for Giving Triple Talaq

A man has been arrested from Delhi for giving triple talaq to his wife, the police said on Saturday, 10 August.

According to the police, a 29-year-old woman on Friday filed a complaint in which she claimed that her husband Atir Shamin, who she married in November 2011, divorced her by pronouncing triple talaq.

"In her complaint, she alleged that on June 23 her husband pronounced talaq three times on her and also has sent a 'Fatwah' over WhatsApp mentioning the incident," said Nupur Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North).

Following the complaint, a case under Section 4 of The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act 2019 was registered against Shamin, a resident of Azad Market in North Delhi.

"We have arrested the husband and further investigation is underway," said Prasad.

Delhi Police Book Former BJP MLA For Allegedly Raping Daughter-in-Law

The Delhi Police have booked former BJP MLA Manoj Shokeen for allegedly raping and threatening his daughter-in-law at gun point on the intervening night of December 31, 2018 and January 1 this year, the police said on Saturday.

The victim approached the police on Thursday following which an FIR was registered against Shokeen, the former two-time MLA from Nangloi Assembly seat.

Arun Jaitley Stable, Responding to Treatment: Vice President's Office

Former Union minister Arun Jaitley, who has been admitted to the AIIMS here after he complained of breathlessness and restlessness, is stable and responding to treatment, the Vice President's office said on Saturday after Venkaiah Naidu visited the hospital.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu visited the All India Institute of Medical Sciences to enquire about his former cabinet colleague's health.

"The doctors informed the Vice President that Shri Jaitley is responding to the treatment and his condition is stable.

The Vice President also met Shri Jaitley's family members who were present," the Vice President's secretariat tweeted.

13 Killed, 16 Missing as Typhoon Lekima Hits China

At least 13 people were killed and 16 others missing after Typhoon Lekima made landfall in the early hours of Saturday in China's Zhejiang province, according to state-run media here said.

The typhoon will move north at a speed of about 15 km/h, with gradually weakening force, the National Meteorological Centre (NMC) was quoted as saying by the China Daily.

President Gives Nod to Increase Number of Judges in SC

President Ram Nath Kovind has signed into law a Bill which seeks to increase the sanctioned strength of judges in the Supreme Court from 30 to 33 besides the Chief Justice of India.

The Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill was passed by Parliament earlier this week.

With no vacancy, the present strength of the apex court is 31, including the chief justice of India. After the law comes into force, the sanctioned strength of SC will be 33, besides the CJI.

Fire Aboard Container Ship Near Gujarat Coast

A container ship carrying Singapore flag with 26 crew members onboard was escorted to Mundra port after it caught fire off the Gujarat coast, a defence release said on Saturday.

The fire was brought under control, all crew members were safe and the ship's "stability was intact", it added.

MV APL LE HARVE with 26 crew members had left Karachi harbour and was on way to Nhava Sheva near Mumbai when it reported fire about 40 nautical miles south-west of Porbandar on Gujarat coast about 7.15 pm Friday, the release stated.

The Indian Coast Guard's vessel "Sangram" was diverted to provide assistance to the ship.

"The fire was brought under control after hours of effort and the distressed ship was then escorted to Mundra port's outer anchorage," the release said.

The ship anchored off Mundra harbour around 10.30 am on Saturday.

One person was injured in a shooting inside a mosque in a suburb of the Norwegian capital Oslo on Saturday, police said, adding that a suspect had been arrested.

"One person is shot. The severity of that person's injuries is unknown. One suspect is arrested. The police are working at the location," Oslo police said on Twitter.
