Gas Explosion at US Mall Injures 21

A powerful explosion from a suspected gas leak ripped through a shopping mall in Florida on Saturday, injuring 21 people, the fire department said.

The explosion sent debris flying across the parking lot of the Fountain Plaza shopping center, damaging an LA Fitness gym, numerous cars and blowing holes in neighbouring buildings in the city of Plantation, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Miami.

Nine Men Held For Sexual Assault of 16-Year-Old in Pollachi

A horrific case of child sexual abuse has come to light in Pollachi in Coimbatore district where a 16-year-old teenager was abused by as many as nine men.

According to reports, the teenager was abused by her 27-year-old neighbour Ammanullah when she went missing from home. Ammanullah is said to have called his friends over to abuse the teenager. The teenager, who eventually managed to escape, informed her grandmother about the incident. Following this, they lodged a complaint.

Maruti Suzuki Production Down by 15 Percent

India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki's production went down by 15.60 percent in June 2019 at 110,641 units as compared to 131,068 units which it manufactured in the same month last year. The company has recorded a sales decline of 17.2 per cent in June 2019 selling 111,014 units of PVs in the Indian market against 134,036 units which it sold in the same month last year.

Andhra Pradesh's ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Sunday, 7 July, demanded that former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu should vacate the house in which he is staying in Amaravati.

YSRCP MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy said that Naidu should own the moral responsibility of staying in an illegal house and vacate it instead of making irrational arguments.

The MLA from Mangalagiri said that if the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President failed to vacate the house, he will complain to the competent authority to take immediate action.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the transfer of a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) for poor performance on Sunday, 7 July, and sought an explanation from officials of other departments for not performing up to the mark.

A statement issued by the state government here said Adityanath reviewed the progress of the Gorakhpur division and directed that SDM Sadar Maharajganj Satyam Mishra be transferred due to poor performance.

In the second such incident, authorities on Sunday, 7 July, suspended a traffic policeman and ordered a departmental inquiry against him after he was reportedly caught in a video accepting bribe from a person on Jammu-Srinagar national highway here, officials said.

Senior Superintendent of Police (traffic) Jammu city, ordered the action after receiving a video purportedly showing the selection grade constable Bashir Ahmad, posted at Nagrota post, allegedly taking bribe from an unknown person.

'Descendants' Actor Cameron Boyce Dies at 20

Actor Cameron Boyce, known for his roles in the Disney Channel franchise "Descendants" and the Adam Sandler "Grown Ups" movies, has died. He was 20 years old.

Boyce, who played Carlos Oscar De Vil in "Descendants," died Saturday at his home in Los Angeles, according to his spokesperson.

An official cause of death has not been announced. A statement from his family says he passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was the result of an ongoing medical condition.

Deutsche Bank to Slash 18,000 Jobs in Sweeping Restructuring

Germany's struggling Deutsche Bank said on Sunday, 7 July, that it will cut 18,000 jobs by 2022, downsizing its volatile investment banking division in a sweeping restructuring aimed restoring consistent profitability and improving returns to its shareholders.

The Frankfurt-headquartered bank said it would cut roughly a quarter of its total cost base through steps such as dropping the investment bank's stock-trading business.

It will also slim down its division focused on fixed-income investments.

Stakes are high for the talks which follow a week of US-Taliban negotiations with both sides eyeing a peace deal.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Iran’s latest expansion of its nuclear program “will lead to further isolation and sanctions.”

He further urged other nations to refrain from aiding Iran with the enrichment of Uranium (to make nuclear weapons).

“Iran’s regime, armed with nuclear weapons, would pose an even greater danger to the world,” he said.

Over 100 Bombs Recovered From Bengal's Birbhum District

The police have seized caches of bombs, arms and ammunition from various areas of Birbhum district and arrested nine persons in this regard.

A total of 112 crude and socket bombs, six country- made weapons and as many ammunition were recovered from six police station areas during night-long raids on Saturday, Superintendent of Police Shyam Singh said Sunday, 7 July.

Of the 112 bombs, 40 were recovered from Labhpur, 32 from Nanoor, 20 from Panrui, nine each from Kankartala and Sadaipur and two from Rampurhat police station limits, the SP said.

Assam Encephalitis: Leaves of Doctors Cancelled

Assam government has cancelled all leaves of doctors, para-medical staff and surveillance workers in order to deal with outbreak of encephalitis that has claimed 49 lives across the state since January.

In an order issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department on Saturday, 6 July, all leaves of the government medical staff in the state were cancelled "in order to effectively deal with the present situation of rising AES/JE cases".

To deal with rising number of cases of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and Japanese Encephalitis (JE), the government has decided to involve the private hospitals.

Greek Conservatives Oust Tsipras in Election Landslide

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras admitted defeat Sunday in a general election won handily by the conservative New Democracy party after over four years in opposition, his office said.

The result cuts short Tsipras's bid to lead Greece on into the post-bailout era after presiding over its fraught rescue by international creditors at the height of the European debt crisis.

Leftist Tsipras called New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis to congratulate him, a source in the prime minister's office told AFP.

Tens of Thousands in Hong Kong Take Message to Mainlanders

Tens of thousands of people, many wearing black shirts and some carrying British colonial-era flags, marched in Hong Kong on Sunday, targeting a mainland Chinese audience as a month-old protest movement showed no signs of abating.

Chanting "Free Hong Kong" and words of encouragement to their fellow citizens, wave after wave of demonstrators streamed by a shopping district popular with mainland visitors on a march to the high-speed railway station that connects the semi-autonomous Chinese territory to Guangdong and other mainland cities.

Organizers said 230,000 people marched on Sunday, while police estimated the crowd at 56,000.
