Court Issues Notice to Attach Properties of Absconding SP MLA

A court in Shamli district has issued a notice to attach the properties of Kairana's SP MLA Nahid Hasan, who is absconding in connection with a cheating case.

On Sunday, police pasted the notice, issued under Section 82 (proclamation for person absconding) of the CrPC, outside the SP MLA's house, Shamli SP Ajay Kumar said.

UN Peacekeeper Killed, Four Wounded in Mali

One peacekeeper was killed and four others were wounded Sunday, 6 October, when a roadside bomb exploded in strife-torn northeastern Mali, the UN mission MINUSMA said.

The peacekeepers were carrying out a security patrol near the town of Aguelhok when the device detonated, spokesman Olivier Salgado said on Twitter.

CPI(M) Demands Sedition Case Against Celebs be Rescinded

The CPI(M) on Sunday condemned the registration of a sedition case against 49 celebrities after they wrote an open letter to the prime minister voicing concern over incidents of mob lynching, saying this reflects the "growing authoritarianism" in the country.

The party's politburo in a statement demanded that the case be rescinded. The FIR was lodged in Bihar's Muzaffarpur against the celebrities, including Aparna Sen, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Ramchandra Guha, for alleged sedition after they wrote the open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Hundreds of climate activists barricaded themselves into a Paris shopping centre for hours ahead of a planned series of protests around the world by the Extinction Rebellion movement.

Unknown Gunmen Attack Several Television Stations in Baghdad

Masked gunmen ransacked the office of multiple television stations in Baghdad on Saturday, reported Russia Today news.

The Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya said that various masked gunmen attacked their office in Baghdad.

"Colleagues have been injured during the storming of our office by gunmen," according to the correspondent. "The gunmen who were wearing black clothes smashed our equipment and mobile phones," he said.

Suspect Held in Fatal Bludgeoning of Sleeping Homeless Men

A homeless man wielding a long metal bar rampaged through New York City's Chinatown early Saturday attacking other homeless people who were sleeping, killing four and leaving a fifth with serious injuries, police said.

Police recovered the weapon, which was still in the suspect's hands when he was arrested, officials said.

"The motive appears to be, right now, just random attacks," Chief of Manhattan South Detectives Michael Baldassano said, adding there was no evidence yet that the victims were "targeted by race, age, anything of that nature." Two law enforcement officials identified the 24-year-old suspect as Randy Rodriguez Santos. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because criminal charges hadn't yet been finalised.

Santos was taken into police custody early Saturday.

US President Donald Trump has called for the impeachment of his bitter critic and Republican Senator Mitt Romney.

Trump's tweet in this regard came a day after Senator Romney, who during the 2016 presidential elections had called the president a "con artist" and criticised him for his handling of the Ukrainian issue.

"I'm hearing that the Great People of Utah are considering their vote for their Pompous Senator, Mitt Romney, to be a big mistake. I agree! He is a fool who is playing right into the hands of the Do Nothing Democrats! #IMPEACHMITTROMNEY, tweeted the US President on Saturday.
