2 Terrorists Killed in Encounter in J&K's Shopian

Two terrorists were killed in an encounter between terrorists and security forces in Shopian's Safnagri on Tuesday, 6 November.

The operation, now over, saw no collateral damage. The identity of the terrorists is being confirmed.

Russian Fighter Intercepts US Aircraft Over Black Sea

A Russian Su-27 fighter jet has intercepted a US Navy EP-3E Aries plane over the Black Sea near Russian airspace and escorted it away in a safe manner, the Russian Defence Ministry said on Tuesday, 6 November.

Meanwhile, the US Navy announced that a US reconnaissance aircraft was intercepted earlier on Monday by a Russian fighter jet while flying in international airspace over the Black Sea, Xinhua news agency reported.

Turkey Detains 24 IS-Linked Suspects

Turkish police have detained 24 suspects as part of an investigation into the Islamic State (IS) international financial activity.

Citing Anadolu News Agency, Xinhua reported that police units conducted simultaneous operations against the group in 11 provinces across the country, after the prosecutor's office of Diyarbakir province issued detention warrants.

Probably No Meeting With Vladimir Putin in Paris: Trump

US President Donald Trump on Monday, 6 November, said that he is "not sure" of having a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Paris, where the two leaders are scheduled to attend World War I commemorations later this week.

However, they would be meeting at G-20 summit in Argentina which is scheduled for 30 November and 1 December.

Prime Accused of Varanasi Mall Shooting Incident Arrested

A Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth student was arrested for his alleged involvement in the 31 October shooting incident in an upmarket Varanasi shopping Mall in which two persons were killed and two others injured, the police said on Monday, 6 November.

Prime accused Alok Upadhyay was arrested from a bogey of the Farakka Express train at Cant railway station, the police said.

Terrorists Killed in Shopian Encounter Belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen

The two terrorists killed in the Shopian encounter on Tuesday, 6 November, have been identified as Mohd Idrees Sultan and Amir Hussain Rather, affiliated with terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.

Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.

Mehul Choksi's Associate Arrested by ED in Kolkata

Deepak Kulkarni, an associate of Mehul Choksi, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in Kolkata late on Monday, 5 November, after he landed at the airport from Hong Kong.

Kulkarni was the director of Choksi’s dummy firm in Hong Kong. A Look Out Circular was issued against him by ED and CBI earlier.

Pompeo to Meet Top North Korean Official in New York

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will travel to New York on Thursday, 8 November, to meet a top North Korean official, the State Department has announced.

Pompeo and North Korean general Kim Yong-chol, "will discuss making progress on all four pillars of the Singapore Summit joint statement, including achieving the final, fully verified denuclearization of (North Korea)", State Department spokeswoman, Heather Nauert, said.

Petrol, Diesel Prices Slashed for Fifth Straight Day

Petrol, diesel prices were slashed for the fifth straight day on Tuesday, 6 November. Petrol became cheaper by 14-16 paise per litre in all metro cities while diesel rates dropped by 8-10 paise per litre.

Petrol price dropped to a two-month low while diesel touched its lowest level in the last six weeks in Delhi after retail fuel prices were cut.

2 Killed, 1 Injured After Electric Pole Falls on Vehicle in UP

Two people were killed and one seriously injured after an electric pole fell on a vehicle on Monday, 5 November, on the Budhana-Kandhla road in Uttar Pradesh.

The deceased were identified as Shahnawaz (17) and Kurban Ali (20), police said, adding that the injured person was shifted to a nearby hospital.

TRS Leader Narayana Reddy Allegedly Murdered in Telangana's Vikarabad

The body of TRS leader Narayana Reddy was found on Tuesday morning in Telangana's Vikarabad. He was allegedly stoned to death, ANI reported.

Following the incident, two Congress workers were beaten up by the Reddy's supporters. They have been admitted to a hospital nearby. A case is yet to be registered.

SBI Fraud: 8 Bank Officials, Harshad Mehta's Brother Acquitted

A Mumbai court on Tuesday, 6 October, acquitted nine people, including Ashwin Mehta, brother of 1992 securities scam kingpin Harshad Mehta, in a case of duping the State Bank of India (SBI) to the tune of Rs 105 crore.

Justice Shalini Phansalkar Joshi, who presides over the special court set up for cases related to the 1992 securities scam, said in her judgment last week that there was no hesitation in holding that that the prosecution had failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

China, Pak Start Bus Service Through PoK Despite India's Protests

A private bus service between Lahore in Pakistan and Kashgar in China was launched late on Monday night.

The first bus left for Kashgar from the terminal at Lahore's Gulberg area, and will cover the one-way journey in 30 hours. The bus service however, will pass through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir's Gilgit-Baltistan region, which India has strongly protested, NDTV reported.

Odisha Cong MLA Resigns Over Kunduli Gangrape Incident

Congress MLA Krishna Chandra Sagaria on Tuesday, 6 November, resigned as member of the Odisha Assembly, protesting "injustice" meted out to an alleged gangrape victim of Koraput district, who committed suicide earlier this year.

A 14-year-old girl in Kunduli area of Koraput district had alleged that she was gangraped by four men in uniform in October, last year. The police, however, ruled out rape, citing her medical reports.

CBI Arrests Delhi Government's GST Assistant Commissioner

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Commissioner of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department of the Delhi government while accepting a bribe of Rs 6 lakh, officials said on Tuesday.

The arrested officer has been identified as Jitender Joon while another person who was also arrested was named as Dinesh Khurana in the alleged bribery case.

62 Maoists Surrender In Chhattisgarh

At least 62 Maoist surrendered themselves before Chhattisgarh police in Narayanpur district on Tuesday. The development is a major boost to the state government's efforts to fight against Left-wing extremism.

They also surrendered 51 countrymade firearms in the presence of Bastar Inspector General Vivekanand Sinha and Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Shukla, ANI reported.

The development comes in the run-up to the assembly polls in a state that has been reeling under Left-wing extremism for decades now.

Nine Bombs Recovered From Maoist Den In Jharkhand

Nine improvised explosive device bombs were recovered in Jharkhand's Palamau district on Tuesday, police said.

The nine IEDs were recovered at Manatu of Palamau district in a joint search of the state police and CRPF. Police had recovered arms from the same areas on Saturday. The anti-bomb disposal squad was called and the IEDs were defused.

Police say that the IEDs were planted by Maoist Guerrillas to target the security forces.

ED Attaches 11 Properties of Nirav Modi Worth Rs 56.8 Crore

The Enforcement Directorate attached 11 properties in Dubai belonging to absconding businessman Nirav Modi and his group Company Firestar Diamond FZE.

The attached assets has a market value of US$ 7.795 million equivalent to Rs 56.8 Crore, under PMLA on Tuesday.
