Fire Breaks out in a Building Housing DGHS Office in Delhi's Karkardooma
A fire broke out in a building housing the office of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in east Delhi's Karkardooma area on Friday, Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials said.
No injury has been reported so far, they said.
"More than 60 fire personnel have been deployed in the fire fighting operation. No casualty has been reported," news agency PTI quoted Atul Garg, Chief Fire Officer, as saying.
Hizbul Mujahideen Terrorist Killed in Encounter with Security Forces in J&K's Shopian
A Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist was on Friday, 5 July, killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, police officials told PTI.
Acting on a specific information about the presence of terrorists in Batpore-Narwani area of Imam Sahib in Shopian district of south Kashmir, security forces launched a cordon and search operation Friday morning, a police official said.
As the forces were conducting searches of the area, the terrorists fired upon them, he said.
The forces retaliated, ensuing an encounter in which one terrorist (identified as Sameer Seh of Shopian) was killed, the official said, adding the body was recovered along with arms and ammunition.
Outrage in Russia as Abused Teen Sisters Charged with Murder
The Khachaturyan sisters, now aged 18, 19 and 20, were charged last month with premeditated murder, in a case that has drawn outrage and shone a light on the way the Russian justice system handles domestic violence and sexual abuse cases.
More than 200,000 people have signed an online petition urging the prosecutors to drop the murder charges, which could land the sisters in prison for up to 20 years.
Supporters of the sisters have protested outside Russian embassies in more than 20 locations abroad, and a theater has staged a performance in solidarity.

5 Students Among 8 Held for Circulating 'Gang Rape' Video
Eight people, including five students, have been arrested for 'circulating' a video of alleged gang rape of a student of a private college at Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district, PTI reported, quoting the police.
They were arrested on Thursday, 4 July, on a case registered by the police on its own after the video went viral on social media.
The alleged rape incident that took place in March came to light only this week after the video surfaced.
It was circulated by a group of students who had recently clashed with their rival group in which the rape accused were members, they said.
A case had been registered against them under sections 66 E and 67 A of the IT Act and sections 4 and 6 of Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

Lankan Apex Court Stays Sirisena's Execution Order Against Drug Convicts
Sri Lanka's Supreme Court on Friday, 5 July, stayed till 29 October the execution order passed by President Maithripala Sirisena against four drug convicts, ending a four-decade-long moratorium on the capital punishment in the country.
Sirisena last month signed the death warrants to hang four drug convicts.
The apex court's order came after it took into consideration a number of petitions filed against the president's order, that termed the order as a violation of the fundamental rights of the convicts.
There are 11 such petitions filed in various courts.

Death Toll of Air Raid on Libya Migrant Camp Rises to 53: WHO
The casualty toll of an air strike on a detention camp for migrants near the Libyan capital has climbed to 53 dead and 130 wounded, the World Health Organization said on Friday.
The UN agency said the deaths in Tuesday night's strike had raised to almost 1,000 dead and 5,000 wounded the overall toll of an assault on Tripoli launched by military strongman Khalifa Haftar in April.
International Organization for Migration spokesman Joel Millman said six children and at least two migrants due to leave this week under a voluntary repatriation programme were among those killed.

Bombay HC Raps CBFC; Says It Has No 'Intellectual Morality' to Decide What People Should Watch
"Are you ostriches," an angry Bombay High Court bench on Friday, 5 July, asked the censor board for refusing to issue a universal (U) certificate to a children's film and asserted the board will "not decide what one wants to watch and see".
In strongly-worded observations, a division bench of justices SC Dharmadhikari and Gautam Patel also said that it may have to redefine the role of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) entirely as the latter thinks that it was the "only one with an iota of intelligence to decide for everyone".
The bench was hearing a petition filed by the Children's Film Society (CFS), India, seeking directions to the CBFC tribunal to hear its plea to issue universal certificate to its film "Chidiakhana".

Man Kills Daughter to Claim Insurance Money in Nepal
A 39-year-old man has been arrested in Nepal for allegedly killing his minor daughter so that he could claim Rs 25 lakh insurance money, police said on Friday, 5 July.
According to police spokesperson Nabin Karki , Yadav allegedly killed his daughter by throttling her on Monday. The body of the minor was found floating on a pond the following morning.
Ram Kishor Yadav of Maulapur Municipality of Siraha district, strangled his four-year-old daughter Laxmi Kumari Yadav to get Rs 25 lakh insurance money, the police said.

First Rafale to Be Delivered in 2 Months: French Ambassador
French Ambassador to India Alexandre Ziegler on Friday, 5 July, said the first Rafale fighter aircraft will be delivered within two months and it will be "perfectly on time".
The senior diplomat told PTI on the sidelines of a function in Bhopal that all 36 Rafale jets will be delivered to the Indian Air Force within the next two years.
Calling it an excellent aircraft, he said it would add a lot to the capacity of the Indian Air Force.
"The first Rafale will be delivered to the Indian Air Force (IAF) in two months from now, I think in September, perfectly on time. Thirty six will come within the next two years," PTI quoted Ziegler as saying.

Two Arrested After Brief Exchange of Fire in Delhi's Dwarka
Two men, wanted in cases of robbery and attempt to murder, were arrested after a brief exchange of fire with police in Dwarka area, police said on Friday.
The accused were identified as Rahul (23), a resident of Delhi's Pandav Nagar and Rahul Jaat (24), a resident of Baljeet Nagar, they said.
According to police, Jaat was also declared an absconder by the city court.
They are associates of Varun, a gangster of Patel Nagar area. The duo, along with Varun, hatched a conspiracy to kill their rival Dharmender on 10 July in the Tis Hazari Court, while being produced before the court in connection with a murder case of one of their associate.

School Principal Arrested for Raping Teacher in Delhi
A school principal was arrested in southeast Delhi's Jasola area for allegedly raping a teacher, police said on Friday.
A case was registered in this regard after the woman approached the Sarita Vihar police station, alleging she was raped by the school principal, they said.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that she was first assaulted by the principal in June 2017 when he called her to take extra classes after school hours, police said.
Later, he took her to his office room and offered her soft drinks laced with sedatives. He raped the woman and made a video of the act, a senior police officer said.
The principal also allegedly threatened the woman of making the video viral if she disclosed the matter to anyone, he said.

The BJP's youth wing on Friday, 5 July, fought a pitched battle with the police in Asansol in West Burdwan district, as the party workers continued with their programme which did not have permission, police said.

Air India Moves Quickly on 2nd Sale Bid, Chairman Calls Unions on Monday
Acting quickly on the government's second attempt to sell the financially-crippled national carrier Air India, its chief Ashwani Lohani has called a meeting of all the 13 unions on Monday, 8 July, to discuss the terms of privatisation, according to sources.
The government on Friday reiterated its intent to exit Air India with finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman stating in the budget speech that government will go ahead with privatisation of the flag carrier and has just earmarked a paltry Rs 1 lakh from the budget for the airline, that has been somehow keeping afloat.
"The government has directed the Air India chairman and managing director to meet all trade unions and discuss the privatization move," a source close to development told PTI on Friday night.

The Hong Kong government has approved over USD 900,000 for relief and rehabilitation work in cyclone-hit Odisha that could benefit around 45,100 victims, China's official media reported on Friday, 5 July.
'Very severe cyclonic storm' Fani battered Odisha in May and killed 64 people and damaged more than five lakh dwelling units in the state's coastal districts.
Three grants totalling 7.032 million Hong Kong dollars (about USD 902,278) from Hong Kong's Disaster Relief Fund to three agencies has been approved for the cyclone victims in Odisha, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported quoting a spokesperson of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government as saying.

Niqab Banned in Tunisian Government Offices Following Suicide Bombing
Tunisia's premier on Friday banned the niqab Muslim face covering for women in government offices, citing security concerns after attacks in the North African country.
Prime Minister Youssef Chahed signed a government circular "banning access to public administrations and institutions to anyone with their face covered... for security reasons," his office said.
The ban on the niqab, which covers the entire face apart from the eyes, comes at a time of heightened security following a June 27 double suicide bombing in Tunis that left two dead and seven wounded.
