Rupee Falls 9 Paise to 70.55 Against US Dollar in Early Trade

The rupee depreciated by 9 paise to 70.55 against the US dollar in early trade Tuesday, 4 December, at the interbank foreign exchange, amid strengthening of the US dollar and rising crude oil prices.

Forex dealers said fresh demand for the American currency from importers amid rise in crude prices weighed on the domestic unit. Besides, investors were treading the cautious path ahead of the RBI policy decision.

The rupee opened lower at 70.50 a dollar and dropped further to quote at 70.55, 9 paise down over its previous close.

Polling Underway For 7th Phase of J&K Panchayat Polls

Voting for seventh phase of the nine-phased panchayat polls began Tuesday, 4 December, at over 2,700 polling stations in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The voting began at 8 am at 2,714 polling stations - 576 in Kashmir division and 2,138 in Jammu division, they said.

The officials said 892 polling stations have been categorised as "hypersensitive" in this phase, including 428 in Kashmir division and 464 in Jammu division.

Four Key Bills Get President Ram Nath Kovind’s Nod

Four key bills got the nod of President Ram Nath Kovind, including two from Gujarat and one each from Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

Bill from Gujarat deals with amendment to Prevention of Fragmentation and Consokidation of Holding Act, 1947. The second Bill approved is Gujarat Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Regulation of Issuance and Verification of Caste Certificates) Bill 2018.

The Code of Civil Procedure (Maharashtra Amendment) Bill, 2018 which seeks to delete section 9 A of Code of Civil Procedure (Maharashtra Amendment) Act, 1977 was also approved.

The fourth Bill cleared by President relates to Tamil Nadu Forest Act, 1882. The 2018 Bill, namely Tamil Nadu Forest (Amendment) Bill proposes to amend the definition of “tree” to say it includes stumps and brushwood.”

Delhi's Air Quality Deteriorates, 6 Areas Record Severe Pollution

Delhi's air quality deteriorated further with six areas in the city recording severe pollution as authorities predicted further rise in the next two days.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded an overall air quality index (AQI) of 352, which falls in the "very poor" category.

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor" and 401 and 500 is considered to be "severe".

More Than Half Of Indian Business Scions Join Family Office

Successors at more than half of Indian business families have a role in the family office or wealth management, according to a report by Edelweiss and Private Wealth and Campden Family Connect.

About 58 percent of the families are interested in setting up a family office and half of the 78 ultra-high net worth families—with average wealth of $645 million and an average family office assets under management of $318 million—are doing so, according to the report.

They prefer to invest in fixed income and equities and have a keen interest in private equity or venture capital opportunities.

Indian-Origin Man Jailed For Molesting Woman in Singapore

An Indian-origin man in Singapore was sentenced on Tuesday to 10 weeks in prison for molesting a woman on a bus, a media report said.

Kajayendran Krishnan, a 50-year-old permanent resident from Malaysia, pleaded guilty to one charge of using criminal force intending to outrage the victim's modesty and another of insulting her modesty.

A third charge was taken into consideration for sentencing, the Channel News Asia reported.

The survivors of the MeToo movement that took Bollywood and the media industry by storm in the country were named "Personality of the Year 2018" by search engine major Yahoo India on Tuesday.

The Delhi Police has busted a gang of illegal arms suppliers operating in Delhi with the arrest of three people, a senior officer said Tuesday, 4 December.

Aman Bhardwaj (25) and Vishal Gahlot (28), both residents of Najafgarh and Uttam Nagar respectively were arrested on Thursday, while their partner, Ankur Chaudhary, hailing from Aligarh was arrested from Ghaziabad, the police said.

HC Upholds Special Court's Conviction of 2 Men Under UAPA

The Bombay High Court has upheld the conviction of two terrorists, Abdul Latif Abdul Rashid Shaikh and Riyaz Ali Abu Bakar Shaikh, who were sentenced in 2016 under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for planning to carry out terror attacks in the city.

The two were arrested by the Mumbai Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) in 2010 and had been sentenced.

Uk Parliament Censures Government on Brexit

30 Injured as Bus Falls into Gorge in Tripura's Dhalai District
