Centre Approves Rs 2,500 Cr Relief for Kerala

Four months after the Kerala floods, the Centre has approved an additional Rs 2,500 crore for the relief work. This is over and above the Rs 600 crore earlier sanctioned for the same.

The Kerala government had submitted a memorandum demanding Rs 4,800 crore. However, the committee given the task, cleared Rs 3,100 crore including the Rs 600 crore earlier.

Subsidised LPG price cut by Rs 6.5; mkt price LPG cut by Rs 133

Domestic cooking gas (LPG) price Friday was cut by Rs 6.52 per cylinder on account of tax impact on the reduced market rate for the fuel.

A 14.2-kg subsidised LPG cylinder will cost Rs 500.90 in the national capital from midnight tonight as against Rs 507.42 currently, Indian Oil Corp (IOC), the country's largest fuel retailer, said in a statement.

The price reduction comes soon after six consecutive monthly hikes in rates since June. Prior to this price cut, rates had gone up by Rs 14.13 per cylinder since then.

Scientists Warn Of Impending 8.5-Magnitude Earthquake In Himalayas

Growing warnings by scientists of an impending high-magnitude earthquake in the Himalayas have got further credence from yet another study by Indian researchers.

The new study, led by seismologist CP Rajendran of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research in Bengaluru, says the "enormous stacking up of strain in the region portends at least one earthquake of magnitude 8.5 or more in one of the overlapping segments of the central Himalayas anytime in the future".

A Tokyo court on Friday, 30 November, extended the detention of former Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn, local media said, after his arrest on allegations of financial misconduct that have shaken the auto industry.

The extension means Ghosn could remain in a Tokyo cell for another 10 days while prosecutors investigate allegations he under-reported his salary by millions of dollars over five years.

A special CBI court in Mumbai will start hearing final arguments in the Sohrabuddin Shaikh and Tulsiram Prajapati alleged fake encounter cases from 3 December.

Special CBI judge SJ Sharma wrapped up recording of statements of the accused under Section 313 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on Friday.

Under Section 313, the accused get a final chance to put forth their stand after witnesses' statements are recorded.
