The government has accorded its final sanction for the deployment of an additional 5,000 CISF personnel to better guard the increasing network and burgeoning passenger load on the Delhi Metro network, officials said on Sunday.

Plea in HC for Enforcement of Mental Health Care Law

A PIL has been filed in the Delhi High Court, seeking direction to the Delhi government to enforce the provisions of the Mental Health Care Act, 2017 with immediate effect.

The plea is listed for hearing on Monday before a bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar.

The plea said the object of the Act is to provide mental health care and services for persons with mental illness and to protect, promote and fulfil the rights of such persons during delivery of the care and services.

MP: Tribal Woman Beaten up by Family Members Over Affair With Dalit Man, 4 Held

A 21-year-old tribal woman was assaulted with sticks by her family members in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly eloping with a Dalit man, police said Sunday, adding that they have arrested four persons.

A police officer said the family members of the woman, a resident of Gatbori village, about 90 kms from Dhar, were angry over her affair with the man with whom she had eloped recently, but later returned home.

Pakistani police have arrested a man for murdering his own transgender son, in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Officer Azmat Khan said Sunday that the father, Aurangzeb Akbar, had given the police written assurance that he wouldn't harm his son, when returning him home.

Police say the transgender Aftab Aurangzeb, 19, also known as Maya, had been staying with friends in Peshawar, the provincial capital.

Major Fire at Ghaziabad Mall, 80 Evacuated From Smoke-Filled Restaurant

A major fire broke out at a restaurant inside a shopping mall on Sunday afternoon, trapping at least 80 people who were rescued by the Fire Safety Department, officials said.

The incident was reported around 3.50 pm from Barbecue Nation restaurant at the Gaur Central Mall in the upscale Raj Nagar area of the city, the officials said.

"The fire broke out at the fifth floor of the mall and the smoke had filled its premises. Immediately two fire tenders were rushed to the spot with senior servicemen on duty. Panic-stricken people were running amok and immediately the evacuation process was started," a Fire Department official said.

Sri Lankan PM Says He Is Opposed to Capital Punishment

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said Sunday he and his United National Party (UNP) are opposed to the capital punishment, as President Maithripala Sirisena attempts to end a 43-year moratorium on death penalty to start executing drug convicts.

Sirisena said Wednesday he was committed to bringing back capital punishment for drug offenders, months after vowing a tougher line on spiralling narcotics-related crime.

Non-Subsidised LPG Price Reduced by Over Rs 100 per Cylinder

The price of non-subsidised LPG Sunday was cut by over Rs 100 per cylinder on the back of softening international rates, Indian Oil Corp (IOC) said.

The cooking gas in Delhi will be priced at Rs 637 per cylinder from midnight tonight as against Rs 737.50 currently, IOC said in a statement.

Subsidised cooking gas price will be Rs 494.35 per cylinder.

10 Killed in Plane Crash in Texas

A town official said 10 people were killed when a small, twin-engine plane crashed into a hangar during takeoff at a Dallas-area airport.

Addison, Texas, spokeswoman Mary Rosenbleeth says no one survived the Sunday morning crash at the Addison Municipal Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration says a Beechcraft BE-350 King Air was destroyed in the fiery crash after it struck an unoccupied hangar soon after 9 am.
