Delhi in for Second-Coldest December Since 1901

With numbing cold continuing to sweep through Delhi-NCR, the region is expected to record its second-coldest December since 1901, the weather department said on Thursday.

“The mean maximum temperature for December was less than 20 degrees Celsius only in 1919, 1929, 1961 and 1997," an official of the India Meteorological Department said.

Amruta Fadnavis vs Shiv Sena: TMC to Shift Axis Bank Accounts

The Shiv Sena-ruled Thane Municipal Corporation has decided to shift its salary accounts from Axis Bank to a nationalised bank, a civic official said.

Thane Mayor Naresh Mhaske, in a meeting on Thursday, directed officials to shift the accounts from Axis Bank to a nationalised bank, the official said.

The development follows a war of words on social media between the Shiv Sena and Amruta Fadnavis – wife of former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis – who holds a senior position at the Axis Bank.

Air India Stops Issuing Tickets on Credit to Govt Agencies That Owe it Over Rs 10L

Debt-laden Air India has stopped issuing tickets on credit to officials of various government agencies such as the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate, which owe it more than Rs 10 lakh each, a senior official of the national carrier said on Thursday.

While disinvestment-bound Air India's net loss in 2018-19 was around Rs 8,556 crore, its current total debt is over Rs 60,000 crore.

Girl Found Dead on Railway Tracks in UP's Hamirpur

A teenage girl, who was allegedly raped, was found dead on a railway track in UP’s Hamirpur, police said on Thursday.

The 17-year-old girl left home for coaching on Wednesday evening and was later found dead on the tracks, Circle Officer Anurag Singh said.

The girl's family alleged she was raped and later killed.

On the complaint of the victim's uncle, an FIR has been lodged against unidentified persons.

Boat Carrying Migrant Capsizes in Turkey

A boat carrying migrants capsized in a lake in eastern Turkey on Thursday, killing seven people on board, officials said. At least 64 migrants were rescued.

The boat sank in Lake Van as it approached the town of Adilcevaz in Bitlis province, the provincial governor's office said in a statement. It was carrying migrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Five of the migrants were found dead in the lake while two others died in a hospital, the statement said.

Turkey is a main crossing point for migrants trying to reach Europe.

Sirens warning of rocket fire from Gaza cut short a rally by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday evening as he campaigned for his party's primaries the following day, public television reported.

It was the second time in recent months that rocket fire cut short one of his meetings.

"A projectile was fired from the Gaza Strip towards Israeli territory and was intercepted by the Iron Dome defence system," the Israeli army said in a statement.
