Fuel Prices Reach a New High
Fuel prices in Delhi reached a new high with petrol and diesel at Rs 82.86 per litre and Rs 74.12 per litre respectively, ANI reported. Petrol and Diesel prices in Mumbai are Rs 90.22 per litre and Rs 78.69 per litre, respectively.
Woman Dies of Swine Flu in Uttarakhand
A woman died allegedly due to swine flu in Uttarakhand’s Khatima, ANI reported. Her family was called in by a medical team and was given vaccines.
"This being a suspicious case,her close contacts were given medicines for seasonal influenza. Area being surveyed to see if there are other patients,” the deputy chief medical officer told ANI.

Man Abducted by Militants Found Dead in J&K's Sopore
A 45-year-old man, who was abducted by militants, was found dead Monday in an orchard in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore area, PTI reported.
Mushtaq Ahmad Mir's body was recovered Monday morning from an orchard in the Latti Shot area of Sopore in Baramulla district. Mir was abducted by militants after they barged into his house in Sopore's Harwan area in the north Kashmir district on Saturday night.
Bandipora Health Department Employees Suffer Due to Shortage of Clerical Staff
Over two hundred employees of the Health Department, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora, have been suffering on account of a lack of clerical staff in the office for the last eight months, Greater Kashmir reported .
The four junior assistants who took care of the employees’ salaries, general provident fund and other work were transferred out of the office in the wake of their involvement in a corruption scandal. Since then no one has filled their positions.
Instagram Co-Founders to Step Down
Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger are leaving the smartphone photo-sharing service bought by Facebook six years ago for a billion dollars, the New York Times reported late Monday citing unnamed sources according to PTI.
Systrom and Krieger have resigned from their posts as chief executive and chief technology officer respectively, not giving reasons and saying they planned to take time off, according to the Times.
Rupee Falls 33 Paise to 72.96 Against US Dollar
Continuing its slide, the rupee weakened by 33 paise to 72.96 against the US dollar Tuesday, hurt by increased demand for the American currency from importers as global crude oil prices hit four-year high.
The international benchmark Brent crude breached the USD 81 a barrel mark by surging over 3 percent to trade at $81.28 a barrel.

Govt Ready for Talks with 'Everyone' on Kashmir Issue: Rajnath
The government is ready for dialogue with "everyone" on Kashmir issue, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday, days after India cancelled a foreign minister-level talks with Pakistan, PTI reported.
Singh, however, asserted that terrorism in Kashmir Valley is "Pakistan-sponsored".
"I think the (Kashmir) matter will be resolved. We are ready to talk to everyone," he told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of the Central Zonal Council.
The home minister said as far as terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, all security agencies are working in coordination.
"Terrorism in Kashmir is Pakistan-sponsored," he said.
First UK Sikh Guardsman tested Positive for Cocaine
A 22-year-old Sikh soldier, who created history by becoming the first to wear a turban during an annual parade to mark British Queen Elizabeth II's birthday ceremony, could be kicked out from his post after he was tested positive for cocaine, according to a media report cited by PTI.
Charanpreet Singh Lall made headlines across the world for wearing the turban during the Trooping the Colour in June.
However, last week he failed a random drugs test at his barracks, with insiders claiming he registered "high levels" of cocaine, The Sun reported.

SC Declines to Ban MPs, MLAs Facing Criminal Charges
The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to ban MPs and MLAs facing criminal charges, from contesting elections, CNN-News18 reported.
The court reportedly said that it cannot bar netas facing criminal charges unless they are convicted and left the decision to the Parliament.
According to Bar&Bench, the court said that the candidates contesting must declare their criminal antecedents and political parties must put up criminal antecedents of their candidates on their websites.
The court also said that the Parliament must make law to ensure candidates with criminal antecedents don’t enter public life and take part in law making.
Group of Men Force Woman to Pose Nude, Take Pictures
A group of men has allegedly forced a woman to pose for obscene photographs in a video after taking her husband hostage near Virajpur Railway station in Seraikela-Kharswan district of Jamshedpur, PTI reported.
The incident occurred when the couple was returning home from work on 15 September. A group of six/seven men had accosted them and made an attempt to rape her after taking her husband hostage in an area under Gamariah police station.
As the men failed to commit the crime after the woman started screaming, they took her to a nearby bush where they forced her to pose for obscene photographs in a video.
SC Constitutes Committee to Recommend Measures on Prison Reforms
The Supreme Court constituted a three-member committee on jail reform, to be headed by former SC judge Amitava Roy to recommend measures on prison reform, ANI reported.
The Committee would be assisted by government officials and will file reports before the Supreme Court from time to time.
J&K Police Find Civilian Body
Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday found body of a 30-year-old man from the Balahama area on the outskirts of the city.
"Body of Zahoor Ahmad Dar was found in Balahama in the early hours. The body has been taken into custody and inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC have been launched to ascertain the cause of death," a police spokesman said.

J&K VDC Member, Wife Injured As Rifle Goes Off
A Village Defence Committee (VDC) member and his wife were injured when his rifle went off under suspicious circumstances in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, PTI reported.
The .303 rifle of VDC member Kulwant Singh (35) went off at his home in Kodi village in Arnas tehsil Monday.
The bullet hit him and his wife Goddi Devi (33), police said, adding neighbours informed police about the injured couple who were later hospitalised.
DGCA Begins Probe in Jet Airways' Training Programme
Aviation regulator DGCA has begun inspection of the training programme of the beleaguered Jet Airways, PTI reported.
As per the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) guidelines, all air operators are required to develop a training programme for their crew and dispatchers. It's also the responsibility of the operator to ensure that its training programme is complete, current, and in compliance with the DGCA guidelines.
"The DGCA has commenced a three-day inspection of Jet Airways' training programme. During the exercise, it will asses all aspects of its training programme and also find out whether the airline is in comliance to those norms which are part of the training manual," a DGCA official told PTI.
US to Provide $185 Mn in Assistance for Those Affected by Rakhine State Crisis
The US will provide more than $185 million in additional humanitarian assistance for those affected by the Rakhine State crisis in Myanmar and Bangladesh, including funding for the Rohingya refugees as well as for supporting critical emergency services.
The new funding will support the implementation of critical emergency services, including protection, emergency shelter, food, water, sanitation, health care, and psychosocial support.
US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley announced on Monday that the US will provide more than $185 million in additional humanitarian assistance, of which $156 million would go to refugees and host communities in Bangladesh, taking its total humanitarian aid for the crisis to nearly $389 million in the past year.

BJP Protests in Amethi over Rahul Gandhi's Comments on Modi
Furious with Congress president Rahul Gandhi for using "foul language" against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP workers staged a noisy protest in Amethi on Tuesday to demand an apology and were dispersed by police, PTI reported.
As Congress and BJP workers faced off against each other on the second day of his visit to his parliamentary constituency, Gandhi went to the district magistrate's office amid tight security.
"The situation is under control now. The BJP and the Congress came face to face and police had to intervene," said Additional Superintendent of Police BC Dubey.
Exfiltration Bid Foiled in J&K
Army troops have foiled an exfiltration bid along the LoC and arrested a man in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.
The Army observed some movement near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector and detained one man. He was identified as Rafiq, a resident of Chadora area of Budgam district in Central Kashmir.
After preliminary questioning, Army handed over to the police.
As per investigation, he was exfiltrating to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) for joining militancy.

Sensex, Nifty Snap 5-Day Losing Streak Led By HDFC Twins
Indian equity benchmarks snapped their worst losing streak of 2018 led by HDFC twins, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Infosys.
The S&P BSE Sensex rose 1 percent or 347 points to 36,652 and the NSE Nifty 50 Index climbed 0.9 percent or 100 points to 11,067.
For most part of the day, the benchmarks were highly volatile as Nifty swung 20 times between gains and losses. However, the sentiment improved after the LIC Chairman VK Sharma said that LIC will ensure Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS) doesn't collapse and did not rule out raising stake in the beleaguered company.

Finance Minister Exhorts Banks to Take Steps to Ensure Clean Lending
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said the amendment of IBC to debar wilful defaulters has had the unintended positive consequence of defaulting borrowers stepping forward to make payment in order to participate in the resolution process, the Finance Ministry said on Tuesday.
Jaitley exhorted the banks to ensure all steps at their end to ensure clean lending and effective action in cases of fraud and wilful default, in order to justify the trust reposed in banks.Banks must strive to be seen always as institutions of clean and prudent lending.

Delhi Cabinet Approves Rooftop Solar Power for Housing Societies
The Delhi cabinet on Tuesday approved the 'Mukhyamantri Solar Power Scheme' to set up solar panels on rooftops of group housing societies in Delhi.
Under the Renewable Energy Service Co (RESCO) model, the domestic consumer will not have to spend any money for the installation of solar panels. It will be done by select service providers, Cabinet Minister Satyendar Jain told the media.

Bill Cosby has been sentenced to three to 10 years in state prison for drugging and molesting a woman at his suburban Philadelphia home.
Judge Steven O'Neill sentenced Cosby on Tuesday, five months after his conviction in the first celebrity trial of the #MeToo era.
Prosecutors were seeking a sentence of five to 10 years in prison. The defense asked for house arrest.

Renowned Commentator Jasdev Singh Passes Away
Renowned commentator Jasdev Singh, considered the voice of Indian sports on Doordarshan, died on Tuesday, 25 September after prolonged illness.
He was 87 and is survived by his son and daughter.
During the late '70s and early '80s, considered to be Doordarshan's best days in sports coverage, Jasdev Singh, along with Ravi Chaturvedi and Sushil Doshi, were some of the household names for sports-lovers.

Yamuna River Crosses Danger Mark
The Yamuna river on Tuesday, 25 September, crossed the danger mark and is currently flowing at 205.24 metres, officials said, warning that the level is expected to further increase.
Around 11,19,430 cusecs of water was discharged from Hathani Kund Barrage till 2pm, the officials said.
The water level is expected to further increase and an alert has been sounded by the authorities, they added.
