New Zealand Attack Note Left at Fire at California Mosque
A note referencing the recent terrorist attacks in New Zealand was found at the scene of a possible arson fire at a Southern California mosque, the police said on Sunday, 24 March.
Nobody was hurt, and members of the Islamic Center of Escondido were able to extinguish the small blaze before firefighters, officials said.
The incident was being investigated as arson and a possible hate crime, said police in the city about 48 kilometers north of downtown San Diego.

Explosions Heard in Central Israel After Gaza Rocket Attack
Explosions have been heard in central Israel after air raid sirens wailed.
The Israeli military says a rocket was launched early Monday from the Gaza Strip toward Israel and was looking into the reports.
The apparent attack comes 10 days after rockets were fired toward Israel's densely populated commercial capital of Tel Aviv. Gaza's Hamas leaders said it was fired accidently.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility to Monday's incident.

Three Missing Boys Reunited with Families in J-K
Three boys, who had gone missing from Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, have been traced and reunited with their families, police said today.
A report was lodged at Vilgam police station on Sunday stating that three boys from neighbouring village of Dohama in Handwara area of the north Kashmir district were missing, a police spokesman said.
He said a case was registered and investigation initiated.

SC Refuses to Entertain Plea Against Ordinance on Reservation for Varsity Faculty
The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a plea challenging the Centre's Ordinance which restored the roster based reservation system for appointment of faculty members in higher educational institutions.
The pleas challenging the 7 March promulgation of The Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers' Cadre) Ordinance, 2019 came up for hearing before a bench of Justices S A Bobde and Sanjiv Khanna.
The bench told the counsels appearing for the petitioner to approach the high court with the grievance.

Mine Protected Vehicles, 30-Seater Buses for CRPF Convoys in Kashmir: DG
The CRPF will procure a new fleet of mine protected vehicles (MPVs) and small 30-seater buses to ensure safety of its troop convoys in the Kashmir Valley, the chief of the force has said.
The paramilitary has also decided to enhance the number of its bomb detection and disposal squads (BDDS) for its about 65 battalions based in the Kashmir Valley for anti-terror and law and order duties.
These new measures have been chalked out by the force in the aftermath of the February 14 Pulwama terror attack.

Five Killed in Truck-Tempo Collision in Bihar
Five persons were killed and 11 others injured in a truck-tempo collision near Rani Sarai village in Patna district today morning, police said.
The injured have been admitted to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) here, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sanjay Kumar Singh said.
All five deceased were labourers, who were on their way to a site of an NTPC power project at Barh.

Protection from Arrest to Chidambaram, Karti Extended till 26 April
A Delhi court today extended the interim protection from arrest granted to former Union minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti in the Aircel-Maxis case till 26 April filed by the CBI and the ED.
P Chidambaram appeared before Special Judge O P Saini, who extended the interim relief granted to them.
The case relates to alleged irregularities in grant of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval in the Aircel-Maxis deal.

Pakistan Charges Former Policeman in Killing of Male Model
A former police officer, who allegedly staged a fake encounter of a 27-year-old aspiring male model after declaring him a member of the Pakistani Taliban, was charged today with murder.
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi indicted former Malir Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar for the murder of Waziristan native Naqeebullah Mehsud in a fake encounter in Karachi.
Anwar, who was in court when charges were framed against him, pleaded not guilty.

Justice Khanna Recuses from Hearing Sajjan Kumar's Appeal
Supreme Court judge Justice Sanjiv Khanna once again recused himself from hearing the appeal of former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar on Monday. Kumar has challenged the Delhi High Court verdict sentencing him to life term in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
On 25 February, Justice Khanna had recused himself from hearing Kumar's appeal when he was sitting in a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi.
The matter came up for hearing on Monday before a bench of Justices S A Bobde and Sanjiv Khanna.

Body of 33-Year-Old DMRC Employee Found in the Basement of Metro Bhawan
The body of a 33-year-old DMRC employee was found in the basement of the Metro Bhawan, police said on Monday.
The deceased identified as Mahesh Prajapati, hailed from Varanasi and was residing in Govindpuri area of the national capital. Prajapati allegedly committed suicide as he might have jumped from a substantial height, police said adding that no suicide not was found near the body.
Prajapati worked as a maintenance fitter in Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

Shooter Kills Five in China's Inner Mongolia: Police
A person wielding a gun killed five people in northern China, before being arrested by police, local authorities said today.
Police seized bullets from the suspect, who was wounded in the incident, said local officials from Kailu district in Tongliao, a city in northern China's Inner Mongolia region, citing a police statement.
The shooting happened at around 3.30pm (0730 GMT) and the case is under investigation, according to a statement posted on the local government's official Twitter-like Weibo account.

HAL Rolls out 16th LCA for IAF
The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited today announced the production of 16th light combat aircraft "Tejas" as per the target.
The city-headquartered public sector company said the customer flights would be completed by the end of this month.
HAL in a statement said it has orders from the Indian Air Force (IAF) for 40 LCAs (16 each in Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) and Final Operation Clearance (FOC) configurations and eight trainers) and the 16th LCA was as per the target till 31 March.

IAF Helicopter Engaged in Fire-Fighting at Garbage Yard
A helicopter of the Indian Air Force is putting out a devastating fire that broke out in a garbage dumping yard near here, sources in the IAF said today.
The blaze occurred on Sunday evening, and went out of control in spite of over 20 fire-tenders trying to douse the flames.
So, the district administration sought the service of the Mi017 V5 helicopter for aerial spraying of water which is underway with the use of Bambi buckets, the sources said.

Pak Military Says No F16 Used to Shoot down Indian Aircraft
Pakistan's military has said for the first time that JF-17 Thunder combat aircraft developed jointly with China were used in retaliation to India's pre-emptive strikes on a JeM terror camp in Balakot as it once again denied that US-made F-16 jets were involved in the attack.
Referring to the aerial dogfight with the Indian Air Force jets after the February 14 Pulwama terror attack claimed by Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Pakistan Army spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor said the Indian jets violated the Pakistani airspace on 26 February, dropping payloads without inflicting any casualties or damage to infrastructure.

A British Airways flight destined for Dusseldorf in Germany landed in the Scotish capital Edinburgh by mistake, after the flight paperwork was submitted incorrectly, a media report said on Monday.

7 Detained over Alleged Forced Conversion, Underage Marriages of 2 Hindu Girls in Pak
At least seven people, including a man who assisted in solemnising the wedding of two teenage Hindu girls after their alleged abduction and forced conversions, have been detained in Pakistan, amid reports that the victims approached a court seeking protection.
The two girls, Raveena (13) and Reena (15), were allegedly kidnapped by a group of "influential" men from their home in Ghotki district in Sindh on the eve of Holi. Soon after the kidnapping, a video went viral in which a cleric was purportedly shown soleminising the Nikah (marriage) of the two girls, triggering a nationwide outrage.

Pakistanis Protest Acquittal of 4 in Samjhauta Train Blast
Family members of Pakistanis killed in an Indian train explosion are protesting an Indian court's acquittal of four accused charged with triggering the blasts 12 years ago, which killed 68 passengers.
At a rally in the eastern city of Lahore on Monday, 25 March, relatives chanted: "We want justice," and called on Prime Minister Imran Khan to take the matter to the International Court of Justice.
Last week, an Indian court ruled investigators had not conclusively proved that the accused were guilty.
In 2007, two coaches of the Samjhauta Express were engulfed in flames while travelling from New Delhi to Atari, the last station before the Pakistan border. Most of those killed were Pakistani citizens.
Thousands of travellers use this train service each year.

Ambedkar Statue Vandalised in Muzaffarnagar
A statue of Dalit icon B R Ambedkar was vandalised by unidentified miscreants in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district today, police said.
Protests broke out at Kasampur Bhooma village in Jansath area when people found out about the incident, the police said.
The damaged statue was replaced with a new one on the same day. Police personnel have been deployed in the village, it added.
