Woman Attacked With Acid, Critical

A woman is critically injured after two bike-borne men threw acid on her in Meerut. The victim has been admitted to hospital. Dr. Sachin Sharma says, “Her condition is critical. It’s a case of 30-40% deep burn. The most affected areas include face and head.”

Traders' Body Writes to Rajnath, Urges to Bring Ordinance to Stop Sealing Drive in Delhi

Traders' body CAIT has urged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to bring an ordinance to provide relief to people hit by the ongoing sealing drive, officials said Thursday.

In a statement issued here, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT ) said it has sent a letter to Singh urging him to bring an ordinance to "stop sealing in Delhi or categorically declare that the central government was not bringing any ordinance".

CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said a letter has been sent to the home minister in this regard.

Swaraj Attends Indian Community Event in Laos Vientiane

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj attended an Indian community event in Vientiane on Thursday, shortly after she arrived in the Laos capital on a two-day visit.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said the minister interacted with participants at the community event.

In her address, Swaraj appreciated the role of the Indian community in acting as a bridge to strengthen India-Laos relations.

Negligence of Victims Responsible for Amritsar Train Tragedy: Railway Inquiry

Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) has concluded in the inquiry of the Amritsar train tragedy on Dusshera that the reason for the accident is negligence of persons reportedly standing on and near the railway tracks witnessing Dusshera Mela at Dhobi Ghat.

CCRS also recommended that prior intimation to railway administration should be given by the district administration/organizers to hold big events like mela/rally so that railway can take proper precautions in consultation with stakeholders.

EU, UK Agree Draft Declaration on Post-Brexit Ties

European Council President Donald Tusk said that the European Union and Britain have agreed on a draft declaration on the future of their political relations after Brexit.

Tusk said in a Tweet Thursday that "the (EU) Commission President has informed me that it has been agreed at negotiators' level and agreed in principle at political level."

Tusk, who chairs meetings of EU leaders, says he has sent the draft political declaration to Britain's 27 European partners.

He says the draft declaration still requires "the endorsement of the leaders."

EU leaders are due to meet in Brussels on Sunday to rubber-stamp the declaration and a separate divorce deal.

5 Killed, 18 Hurt As Car Rams Into Students In China

A car ploughed into several students in front a primary school in China's northeast Liaoning province, killing five of them and injuring 18 others, state media reported.

The injured students of No 2 primary school in Jianchang county, Huludao city have been taken to hospitals, China Daily reported.

The number of casualties was yet to be determined though initial reports claimed that five people have been killed. The driver is under police detention, the report said.

The cause of the incident was under investigation.

Train Derails Moradabad-Bareilly Route in UP

Seven coaches of a passenger train derailed in Uttar Pradesh disrupting traffic on the busy Moradabad-Bareilly route on Thursday, an official said.

Six coaches along with the guard coach were headed to Bareilly for some repairs when they derailed around midnight near Dhamora.

Guard Satish Chandra was critically injured and was rushed to a Moradabad hospital, the official told IANS. Many trains were re-routed while efforts were underway to restore the traffic.

Bhim Army Chief to Address on Bhima Koregaon Anniversary

Dalit outfit Bhim Army announced that its founder Chandrashekhar Azad alias Ravan would address a rally in Pune on 30 December, ahead of the 201st anniversary of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon on 1 January.

On Wednesday, the organisation said over 30,000 people were expected to attend the "Bhima Koregaon Sangharsh Mahasabha".

The rally would be held on SSPMS grounds here and besides Azad, several other leaders of the outfit would be present for the event.

Datta Pol, the district president of Bhim Army, said that during the three-day programme, Azad would address the rally on December 30 and interact with some students of the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) the next day.

A day ahead of Guru Nanak Jayanti, the cabinet on Thursday approved Katarpur Sahib Corridor.

A tweet by Home Minister Rajnath Singh on this read: “ In landmark decision, the Cabinet approves building and development of Kartarpur corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district to International Border. Kartarpur corridor project with all modern amenities and facilities to be implemented with Central Government funding.”

Noted Pakistani Feminist Writer Dead

Noted Pakistani feminist writer and poet Fahmida Riaz died . She was 72. The eminent progressive writer, who was also hailed by many as the pioneer in feminist literature, had been suffering from illness for the past few months, reports Dawn news.

She died on Wednesday night. Riaz was also a human rights activist and the author of more than 15 books on fiction and poetry.

Russian Military Intelligence Chief Dead

General Igor Korobov, the head of Russian military intelligence agency GRU, has died at the age of 63, a Defence Ministry official said on Thursday.

"Head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Deputy Chief of General Staff Igor Korobov died on Wednesday from a serious illness," the official told TASS news agency.

Korobov was born on 3 November 1956. He started serving in the military in 1973.

Priest Who Organised Protest Against Rape-Accused Bishop Warned by Church

Convenor of ‘Save our Sisters’ campaign Father Augustine Vattoly was prohibited by church from holding protests on 14 November and was warned of ecclesiastical action in case of disobedience.

According to news reports, Father Vattoly reportedly coordinated the protest but did not participate.

"I am told that such actions by a priest will seriously injure the good of the Church in public and will cause scandal among the faithful. Therefore, I strongly prohibit you from organizing and attending the said Dharna and similar activities. Disobedience will incur ecclesiastical actions as per norms of Church law," a letter from Major Archepady of Ernakulam-Angamaly to Father Vattoly said.

No Action Against BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, Says SC

Supreme Court today declined to take any action against BJP Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari for breaking the seal of a locked house in an unauthorised colony in North East Delhi's Gokulpur area. The court specified that it did not find any contempt of court by Manoj Tiwari.

The top court has now left it to BJP to take actions against Tiwari and said, "There is no doubt that Tiwari has taken law in his hand. We are pained by the machismo and manner of Tiwari. As an elected representative he should have acted responsibly rather taking law in his own hands."

8 Labourers Hurt as Truck Rams into Kharar Flyover

Eight labourers were reportedly hurt and suffered minor injuries after a truck rammed into shuttering of a lintel they were constructing on the Kharar flyover near Gharuan village.

According to the owner of the project, where the mishap took place, the incident took place at 3 am when the labourers had nearly finished the construction of the flyover

Ashok Kumar Bansal, the owner of Map Projects, said the incident took place at 3 am when the labourers were almost done with the construction of the lintel on the flyover near the Gharuan bus stand.

Fire Breaks Out at ICAI Building in Delhi

A fire broke out on the third floor of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India building on ITO road today morning, the Delhi Fire Service said.

No casualty has been reported.

A call about the fire was received at 9.10 am. Four fire tenders and another vehicle was rushed to the spot. The fire was controlled by 9.30 am, a senior Delhi Fire Service officer said.

Stationery items and furniture were damaged, the fire officer said.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Australian Prime Minister Scott John Morrison, on Thursday, 22 November, called on President Ram Nath Kovind in Sydney, where the President was given a guard of honour at the Admiralty House by the Governor-General of Australia Peter Cosgrove.
