A man was hacked to death in Andhra Pradesh’s Macherla town in Guntur district on Monday, in full public view. Visuals of the incident show the victim first trying to run away from a group of men. But he falls down and the group then attacks him with axes and sickles. The CCTV footage from the incident is blurry, and the police too are yet to identify how many attackers were there.

'PNB to Turn Profitable in FY'19': MD Sunil Mehta

The Punjab National Bank (PNB) is expected to turn profitable this fiscal and is poised for growth, its Managing Director Sunil Mehta said asserting that the Rs 14,000 crore Nirav Modi scam is a bygone.

Mehta said he hopes that PNB will be back into the black during 2018-19 due to various efforts taken by the bank after the fraud came to light in January this year.

At least seven people have been reported dead after a suicide attack struck a parliamentary election rally in Afghanistan’s Kama district. 25 others have been wounded from the explosion, reported TOLO News.

1 Killed in Train Derailment in TN

Two separate incidents of train derailment were reported in TN on Tuesday, with one person dying in Ambattur after a weighbridge container fell on him.

The Southern Railway has ordered a multidisciplinary probe into the matter, they said.

According to Southern Railway officials, a goods train "rolled back" at Ambattur, leading to the derailment of a brake van and a wagon before they hit a dead end and a weighbridge container.

"One person sitting beneath the weighbridge died after the weighbridge container fell on him," they said.

Trump Administration to Deny US Visas to Same-Sex Partners of UN Diplomats: reports

The Trump administration on Monday reportedly began denying visas to unmarried same sex partners of UN diplomats.

According to a report by the Independent, the new policy will now insist that the couples be married to obtain a visa, this despite same-sex marriages being illegal in several countries.

EU Warns Facebook Not to Lose Control of Data Security

The EU's top data privacy enforcer expressed worry that Facebook had lost control of data security after a vast privacy breach that she said affected five million Europeans.

"It is a question for the management, if they have things under control," EU Justice and Consumer Affairs Commissioner Vera Jourova told AFP in Luxembourg.

"The magnitude of the company ... makes it very difficult to manage, but they have to do that because they are harvesting the data and they are making incredible money on using our privacy as the commodity," she added.

Jourova spoke just days after Facebook admitted that up to 50 million user accounts around the world had been breached by hackers, in yet another scandal for the beleaguered social platform.

"I will know more ... in hours or days but according to our knowledge, five million Europeans have been affected out of those 50, which is an incredible number," she said.

Pak CJ Warns Musharraf to Appear Soon or Return in Disgraceful Manner

Irked by former dictator Pervez Musharraf's failure to come back to Pakistan and face ongoing cases against him, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar on Tuesday warned that if the "courageous commando" does not appear soon, he may be forced to return in a disgraceful manner.

Chief Justice Nisar made the remarks when Musharraf's lawyer told the three-judge bench that his client "respects the court" but was unable to return due to his medical condition and reservations over the provision of security, Dawn newspaper reported.

Amazon Ups Wages for 350K, Says It Will Advocate Better Pay Seattle

Amazon, which has faced political and economic pressure to raise pay for thousands of employees, is boosting its minimum wage for all US workers to USD 15 per hour starting next month.

The wage hike will benefit more than 350,000 workers, which includes full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal positions.

Employees at Whole Foods, which Amazon now owns, will get the same pay hike.

Amazon, with more than 575,000 employees globally, took it a step further Tuesday, saying that it would become an advocate for better pay everywhere.

World Community Should Come Together to Fight Terror: Venkaiah Naidu

The entire world community should come together to fight terrorism, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said today in Pune.

"Violence and terror are the enemies of mankind. With violence one can not achieve one's objective...some people think bullet is more important than ballot but ballot can change the fate of anybody," he said.

A bullet can kill a person, but the same bullet can also kill the one who fired it, he said.

He was speaking after inaugurating a newly-built dome complex housing a prayer hall at MIT World Peace University. He also inaugurated 'World Parliament of Science, Religion and Philosophy' organised by the varsity.

NIA Raids Srinagar Businessman Over Alleged Terror Funding

The NIA on Tuesday conducted a search at the residence of a Srinagar businessman in connection with a case related to busting of a terror-funding module linked to Pakistan-based terrorist Hafiz Muhammad Saeed in New Delhi last week, PTI reported..

The raid, which was scheduled last week but postponed due to law and order situation, was carried out at the residence of Ajaz Ahmad Hakak, who deals in medical items, in downtown Srinagar early Tuesday.

Local police and paramilitary personnel accompanied National Investigation Agency officials during the raid.

Hundreds Protest in Kerala Against Sabarimala Verdict

Hundreds of Ayyappa devotees, including women, blocked state and national highways in various parts of Kerala Tuesday protesting the recent Supreme Court verdict, permitting women of all ages to worship at the hill shrine at Sabarimala, PTI reported.

The 'Antarrashtriya Hindu Parishad' (International Hindu organisation), an outfit launched by Praveen Togadia after being sidelined from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, was among the outfits which launched the protests.

3 Dead, 8 Injured in Explosion in Balochistan

A roadside bomb has hit a security convoy in Awaran district of Balochistan province, killing three members of a provincial paramilitary force and wounding eight, PTI reported.

Ahmed Jan, a senior official said the bomb was remotely detonated. The Baluchistan Levies is a force in charge of maintaining law and order in the tribal areas of the insurgency-plagued province.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Madrasa Teacher Held for Molesting 10-Year-Old

A 52-year-old teacher of a local madrasa was arrested Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl student of the seminary, PTI reported.

The incident occurred on Sunday, 30 September when the accused Maulana Abdul Rauf (52) allegedly took the girl to a corner of the Islamic school and touched her inappropriately.

Rauf was arrested after the parents of the girl lodged an FIR in Khajrana police station.

Thane Man Held for Trafficking Women from Bangladesh

A 38-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday from Palghar district of Maharashtra on charges of trafficking women for prostitution, PTI reported.

The accused Saidul Iman Ali Sardar Saidul Sardar is a resident of West Bengal.

According to police, Sardar used to traffic girls and women from Bangladesh and supply them for flesh trade in various parts of India. He used to send the money via Hawala.

The accused has been booked under various sections of the IPC as well as Indian Passports Act and Foreign National Act.

Terrorist Hideout Busted in J&K

A terrorist hideout busted in Kuddhar area in Doda's Kastigarh by Army on Wednesdaday, ANI reported. Two AK-47 rifles, three magazines among other arms and ammunition were recovered.

Parcels Sent to Pentagon Suspected to Contain Ricin

Two or more packages delivered to the Pentagon this week were suspected to contain the deadly poison ricin, PTI reported.

Defense Department spokesman Chris Sherwood said at least two suspicious packages, addressed to someone in the Pentagon, were intercepted at a nearby screening center on Monday.

"As part of the screening process, (authorities) recognized some suspicious packages," Sherwood said.

Russia, India to Sign Deal on S-400 Air Defence Systems This Week: Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin will oversee the signing of a USD 5 billion deal this week to supply Delhi with S-400 air defence systems, a top Kremlin aide said on Tuesday ahead of Putin's trip to India.

"The president is leaving for India on October 4," Putin's top foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov told reporters, adding that he would oversee the signing of the agreement. "The value of the contract will be more than USD 5 billion."
