Russia Actions Pose Threat to Peace, Stability: Trump

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, 19 September said he agreed with his visiting Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda that Russian actions in the region pose a threat to peace and stability.

"I think it's a very aggressive situation. I think Russia has acted aggressively. They respect force. They respect strength, as anyone does. And we have the greatest strength in the world," he said.

Trump was talking to reporters at a joint news conference with Duda at the White House.

S Korea - N Korea Push for Ties Without Nukes

South Korean President Moon Jae-in said two Koreas agreed to "eliminate all the danger of war from the Korean Peninsula", AP reported. He also said that North agreed to dismantle missile engine test site, launch pad and allow inspections.

North Korea also agreed to permanently dismantle its main nuclear complex if US takes corresponding measures.

Class 9 Student Arrested for Getting Schoolmate Stabbed

A student of Class IX of a government school in Panchkula was arrested for allegedly getting his schoolmate of Class XII stabbed to death with the help of some youths, ANI reported. The incident took place in front of the school on 17 September.

Another Class X student was also injured in an attempt to save the deceased student.

Hyderabad Medical Student Kills Self

Final year student of Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Hyderabad allegedly committed suicide on the night of 17 September at his residence in Madannapet police station area, ANI reported.

In a suicide note recovered by the police, the deceased Police mentioned harassment by college staff. The body has been sent for autopsy.

1 Hurt, 2 Missing in Accident in Mandi

One person was injured and two are missing after an oil tanker and a jeep collided and fell in Bhakra Sutlej Link Canal in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi around 1 am on Wednesday, ANI reported. Rescue operation is underway.

Rupee Recovers 28 Paise Against Dollar

The rupee on Wednesday rebounded from its all-time low by rising 28 paise to 72.70 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on fresh selling of the US currency by exporters and banks, PTI reported.

Besides, dollar-selling by exporters and banks, easing crude prices in the global market and weakness in the dollar against other currencies overseas, helped the domestic currency rebound, forex dealers told PTI.

29-Year-Old Hyderabad Woman Given Triple Talaq by Husband on Whatsapp

29-year-old Huma Saira from Hyderabad was allegedly given talaq on WhatsApp by her 62-year-old husband, an Oman national, ANI reported.

"I was married to an Oman national in May 2017 in Hyderabad. I lived in Oman for one year. I gave birth to a baby in 8 months who died in 3 months because of bad health,” she told ANI.

“He sent me to my mother's place in Hyderabad on 30 July 2018 for medical treatment. When I came here, he gave me talaq on WhatsApp on 12 August 2018. He is not answering any of my questions. I request Sushma Swaraj ma'am to help me,” she said.

Six accused have been sent to 14 days judicial custody and 3 minor students have been sent to juvenile correctional home in case of gang-rape of a class 10 student of a Dehradun school last month, ANI reported.

7-Year-Old Raped by Neighbour in Delhi

A seven-year-old girl was raped and thrashed by her neighbour in a wedding ceremony in Delhi, The Times of India reported.

The 22-year-old accused, lured the minor from the wedding to a nearby park on the pretext of giving her a gift. He also tried inserting a rod inside her private parts. The survivor has undergone surgery and is now stable.

Delhi's Patiala House Court has fixed 22 October as the date for arguments on charges against former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, his wife Pratibha Singh and others in disproportionate assets case, ANI reported.

Goa Congress Claims It Has Numbers to Form Govt in State

The opposition Congress in Goa on Wednesday claimed that it had the support of over 21 legislators in the 40-member Assembly, giving it enough strength to form the government in the state, PTI reported.

The Congress, which is the single-largest party with 16 MLAs, has already staked claim to form the government in the coastal state.

Threat To Biplab Deb's Life, says BJP

Myanmar-based drug peddlers have issued a threat to the life of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb as he has called for making the state drugs-free, the ruling BJP in Tripura has claimed according to PTI.

Veteran BJP leader and former minister Ratan Chakraborty told a press conference on Tuesday that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had received reports that drug peddlers in Myanmar had hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Deb.

"We have also got inputs from our party sources," Chakraborty said.

Union Cabinet Approves of Triple Talaq Ordinance

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved an ordinance making triple talaq a punishable offence after the government failed to pass it through both houses of the Parliament, News18 reported.

The ordinance would have similar provisions as The Muslim Women Protection of Rights in Marriage Act, which was cleared by the Lok Sabha in December last year.

Teenager Raped Outside Ganesh Pandal in Maharashtra

A teen-aged girl was allegedly raped by a 24-year-old man when she went to offer prayers at a pandal during the ongoing Ganesh festival in Maharashtra’s Dahanu, PTI reported.

The incident occurred Monday night when the 13-year- old girl along with other children had gone to the Ganesh pandal set up at Agar village in Dahanu area, Palghar police spokesperson Hemant Kumar Katkar said.

The accused, a pandal contractor, lured the girl on some pretext, took her behind the venue and allegedly raped her there and fled, he said.

SC Defers Hearing of Former 'Tehelka' Editor-in-Chief in Sexual Assault Case

The Supreme Court deferred the hearing of former editor-in-chief of Tehelka, Tarun Tejpal, in the sexual assault case to 30 October, ANI reported.

The Tehelka founder was accused by a woman colleague of sexually assaulting her in an elevator of a five-star hotel during the magazine’s THiNK 2013 festival in Goa in November 2013.

Indian-Origin Family Targeted in UK Hate Crime Arson Attack

An Indian-origin family of four in the UK had a lucky escape when their house was targeted in an "unprovoked" arson attack which the police is treating as a hate crime, PTI reported.

Mayur Karlekar, called as Mac Karlekar, and his wife Ritu and two young children were asleep in their home late on Saturday night when they were woken up by their neighbours, who had called in the fire brigade to tackle a huge blaze outside their home in south-east London's Borkwood Park area of Orpington.

"The Metropolitan Police is investigating this as a hate crime. It is being dealt with as a case of arson and criminal damage. No arrests have been made so far," a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Bandh in Rewari over 19-Year-Old Girl's Gang Rape

Traders in Kosli town of Haryana's Rewari district observed a bandh on Wednesday to protest against the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old woman, PTI reported.

A protest march was taken out by some social organisations and residents to protest against the incident. They demanded immediate arrest of the two key accused on the run -- an Army man who has been identified as Pankaj and Manish, and exemplary punishment for the culprits.

Malaysia's Ex PM Najib Razak Arrested by Anti-Graft Agency

Malaysia's anti-graft agency said former Prime Minister Najib Razak was arrested on Wednesday and will face further charges of abuse of power over the multimillion-dollar looting of a state investment fund.

The agency said in a statement that Najib was detained at its office over the transfer of 2.6 billion ringgit ($627.8 million) into his bank account. It said Najib will be taken to court on Thursday to face several charges under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act.

It didn't give details, but the section deals with the abuse of power.

Woman 'Stopped' From Meeting PM Modi Sets Bus on Fire in Varanasi

A woman campaigning for a separate Purvanchal state set a bus on fire in Varanasi on Wednesday, 19 September, after she was allegedly stopped from meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to the city, reported PTI quoting the police.

Vandana Raghuvanshi, secretary of the Poorvanchal Jan Andolan Samiti boarded a state-run Volvo bus that ran between the city and Lucknow. She then asked two-three passengers present inside the luxury bus to deboard, following which she sprinkled petrol inside and torched it, Superintendent of police Dinesh Kumar Singh said.

Fire tenders were called in to douse the flames, but the bus was partially burnt. The accused has been arrested.

Three Injured in Wisconsin Workplace Shooting, Suspect Dead

A shooter opened fire inside a Wisconsin software company on Wednesday, wounding three people before responding officers fatally shot the assailant as workers ran from the office building or hid inside, AP reported quoting police and witnesses.

Middleton Police Chief Chuck Foulke said officers were alerted to an active-shooter situation at WTS Paradigm around 10:25 a.m. Foulke said the suspect was taken to a hospital after being shot by officers but later died. He said there were no other suspects in the attack, according to AP.
