A two week long platoon level joint military exercise between the Indian Army & Royal Thai Army began on Sunday, 19 August. Named ‘Maitree’, it is an annual event designed to strengthen the partnership between the Royal Thai Army and the Indian Army.

Narcotics Control Delhi Zonal Unit have busted an international illicit online drugs and pharmacy syndicate, seized two parcels containing pharmaceutical drugs and other psychotropic substances, reported ANI on Sunday, 19 August. Four people have been apprehended for investigation.
Two Jaish-e-Mohammed Over Ground Workers (OGW) have been arrested in a joint operation by Handwara police and 30 Rashtriya Rifles in Kupwara district's Handwara, Jammu and Kashmir. Arms and ammunition have been recovered from them. Further details are awaited.

Two Maratha outfits agitating for reservations in jobs and educational institutions for the community have decided to hold an indefinite protest from August 20 in Pune, reported PTI.
In a meeting held on Saturday, the Maratha Kranti Morcha and Sakal Maratha Samaj said that the protest, which would be held at the Pune Divisional Commissioner's office, was to demand withdrawal of police cases against agitators as well as jobs for the kin of those who had committed suicide in connection with the stir.
