The Income-Tax Department has attached a 'benami' plot worth Rs 400 crore in Noida belonging to BSP supremo Mayawati's brother and his wife, an official order said.
The provisional order for the attachment of the seven-acre plot, "beneficially owned" by Anand Kumar and his wife Vichiter Lata, was issued on 16 July by the Delhi-based Benami Prohibition Unit (BPU) of the department.

Three Naxalites have been killed and arms and ammunition seized in an encounter with security forces in Jhrakhand's Lohardaga district Thursday, officials said.
They said the encounter broke out around 2:45 pm when a joint team of 158th and 214th battalions of CRPF and state police was out for operations in Bahegara village of Bagru area in the district.
Bodies of three Maoists, 2 AK-47 rifles and some ammunition have been recovered by the security forces.

Fifteen people were killed and 28 wounded after a minibus carrying migrants overturned in eastern Turkey on Thursday, the private news agency DHA reported.
Women and children figured among the victims and their nationalities were not known. Police and ambulance services were rushed to the scene in Van province near the Iranian border, DHA reported, adding that they had entered Turkey illegally.

In a major relief to MDMK chief Vaiko, the Madras High Court Thursday suspended the one-year sentence awarded to him by a lower court in a 2009 sedition case.
Justice P D Audikesavalu, before whom the appeal filed by Vaiko came up, suspended the sentence imposed by a special court on July 5.
Counsel for Vaiko argued that there was no audio or video evidence produced by the prosecution to prove the charge of sedition under Indian Penal Code section 124 A and even the witnesses produced were only police personnel and no public witnesses were produced.

Two people including a civilian were killed in a suicide bomb attack Thursday, 18 July, targeting security forces in the restive Sinai Peninsula, medical and security sources said.
The attack hit forces stationed near a parking lot in the city of Sheikh Zuweid in North Sinai, the sources told AFP.
One member of the security forces was killed and three others were wounded, while a civilian also died in the bombing.
