Shah Directs Officials to Be High Alert for Floods; Provide Help to States'

Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday directed the NDRF and all the agencies dealing with flood rescue and relief operations to remain on high alert so that they are able to handle any situation that arises.

Heavy rains and floods have affected Assam, Bihar and Meghalaya. While six people lost their lives in Assam, five died in Meghalaya and two in Bihar.

"The home minister has directed the NDRF (National Disaster Relief Force) and all officials concerned to remain on high alert to deal with any situation arising out of the floods," Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai told reporters here.

At least five persons were killed and three others injured, when their SUV rolled down into a gorge in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, officials said.

The vehicle, which was on its way from Ukhral to Alinbass village, skidded off the link road and rolled down into deep gorge, the officials said.

Rajathan Govt to Recruit Over 3,800 Revenue Officials

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has cleared a proposal for the recruitment of 3,835 posts of 'patwaris' (revenue officials) in the state.

The previous government had approved the hiring of 2,000 revenue officials, but no recruitment was done, according to a statement.

The chief minister has given sanction for additional 1,835 posts, taking the total number of recruitment to 3,835, the statement said.

3 Killed in Factory Fire at Delhi's Shahdara

Three persons, including two women, were killed in a massive fire at a hardware factory in the national capital on Saturday, police said.

According to Delhi Fire Services officials, the fire broke out at a rubber-plastic factory in Shahdara's Jhilmil Industrial Area around 9 am.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav said two women and a man were killed in the blaze.

The deceased were identified as Manju, Sangeeta and Shoaib, she added.

2 Killed, 30 Injured as Bus Overturns in Kurukshetra

A private bus travelling from Delhi to Jammu overturned on the national highway after hitting a road divider in Kurukshetra on Saturday, 13 July, killing two persons and injuring 33 others, police said.

After turning turtle, the bus caught fire and many passengers jumped out of it by breaking the windowpanes, police said.

The victims were identified as Gita Devi, 74, and Hardeep Singh, 40, both from Delhi, they said.

A Superintendent of Police was removed from his posting and a Circle Officer suspended in the wake of an alleged custodial death in Churu district last week, officials said.

According to a Department of Personnel order late Friday night, Churu SP Rajendra Kumar is awaiting posting orders while Sardarshahar Circle officer Bhanwarlal has been suspended.

Nemi Chand Nayak was arrested in a theft case on 6 July. He died at a hospital under police detention the same night, said Additional SP, Churu, Omprakash.

RIIN Is Against Inherent Rights of Nagas: NSCN-IM

A day after the Nagaland government's assurance of not taking any hasty decision while preparing the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN), the NSCN-IM has alleged the state's move to implement RIIN is "contradictory" to the inherent rights of the Nagas.

"It is politically motivated to suit the interest of the groups advocating for the '16-Point Agreement'. The Nagaland state does not and will not represent the national decision of the Naga people. It was formed purely to divide the Nagas," the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) said in a statement on Friday.

Dutch Tourist Killed in Malaysia Cave Floods, Guide Missing

17 Killed By Floods and Landslides Triggered by Rains in Nepal

At least 17 people were killed in floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains in Nepal on Friday, home ministry officials said on 12 July.

Three people died after their house got buried in a landslide in Kathmandu's Mulpani area.
