BJP’s 2-Day National Council Starts Today

The Narendra Modi government’s outreach to different sections of society is likely to be a key theme for the two-day BJP national council meeting starting on Friday, 11 January, as thousands of delegates arrive here for the mega event that will set the tone for the party's Lok Sabha campaign.

BJP President Amit Shah will inaugurate the event while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to deliver the concluding speech on Saturday, which party leaders believe will lay down its agenda for the general elections.

The Chhattisgarh government requested the Centre that 'the CBI be instructed not to exercise jurisdiction for investigation of any fresh matter' in the state, reported ANI.

US Vows to Pressure Venezuela's 'Illegitimate' Maduro

The United States has refused to recognise Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's legitimacy as he started a controversial new term and urged rank-and-file government employees to empower the opposition.

"The US will not recognize the Maduro dictatorship's illegitimate inauguration," national security advisor John Bolton tweeted Thursday.

"We will continue to increase pressure on the corrupt regime, support the democratic National Assembly, and call for democracy and freedom in Venezuela," he wrote.
