1. Delhi: ‘Airhostess May Have Grabbed Grill Before Falling’

Airhostess Anissia Batra (39), who died after allegedly jumping off the terrace of her Panchsheel Park house on 13 July, may have grabbed the grill of the roof before falling, two labourers — who have recorded their statement in the capacity of eyewitnesses — have told police.

According to police sources, the two men, in their statement, said they saw a woman “hanging and holding on to the grill before falling on the boundary wall and, thereafter, on the ground”.

2. Former Gujarat BJP Vice President Jayanti Bhanushali Booked for Rape, Abduction

The 21-year-old woman, who had accused former BJP Gujarat unit vice-president Jayanti Bhanushali of rape, has agreed to record her statement before a judge under CrPC Section 164, police said on Friday, 20 July.

An FIR was filed against Bhanushali and two of his aides, late on Thursday, under various sections of the IPC, including rape, abduction, wrongful confinement, intimidation, and under sections of the Arms Act and Information Technology Act, after the woman recorded her statement with the deputy commissioner of police Leena Patil.

3. Clashes During Cricket Match Leads to Rioting in Delhi’s Trilokpuri, 7 Arrested

Two groups attacked each other with stones and molotov cocktails in east Delhi’s Trilokpuri on Thursday night after an argument during a cricket match turned ugly and led to riots in the area.

The tension in the area escalated to a such a level that the police had to resort to using tear gas shells to disperse the rioters. Four residents of the area and four policemen sustained injuries in the clash, with seven men later being arrested on the charges of rioting and instigating violence. Additional police forces remained deployed in the area.

4. Four Get Life Imprisonment for Rape, Murder of Teenage Girl Jamshedpur

A court in Seraikela-Kharswan district of Jharkhand on Friday, 20 July sentenced four people to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of a teenage girl in Chandil sub-division in 2011.

The court of Additional District and Session Judge III sentenced Shankar Singh alias Budha, Ramesh Singh, Angad Pramanik alias Hablu and Shivcharan Singh to life imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 each on them, Public Prosecutor Rajeev Singh said.

5. Nagaland Women Raped in Delhi's Dwarka, 2 Held

A 19-year-old woman from Nagaland was allegedly raped by two men in Dwarka's Kakrola area, the police told PTI.

The victim came in contact with one of the accused on a dating app, who asked her to meet him at his residence.

Accompanied by her friend, she was picked up by duo in a car from a street near Ramphal Chowk, Sector 2 Dwarka, on Tuesday night. They took her to a flat in Kakrola Housing Complex where she was raped, a senior police officer said.

The woman approached the police in the early hours on Wednesday, 18 July about the incident, he said.

6. Man Stabbed to Death for Allegedly Passing Indecent Remarks on Woman

A 35-year-old e-rickshaw driver was stabbed to death in southeast Delhi's Jaipur area today by two men after he allegedly passed lewd comments about the sister of one of the accused, the police said.

The deceased was identified as Jagdish.

The accused, Aamir (24) and Zakir (19), were on their way to Dakshinpuri after meeting the former's sister, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said.

On their way, they met Jagdish, who was in an inebriated state.

7. UP Man Allegedly Kidnapped Nephew to Cut Down Daughter's Wedding Expenses

A three-year-old boy, kidnapped allegedly at the behest of his relatives who wanted to minimise wedding-related expenses, was recovered within 38 hours, the police said today.

Aman was playing outside his maternal aunt's house in Pushp Vihar Colony on Wednesday afternoon when he was kidnapped, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Babloo Kumar said, adding that he was recovered today from an isolated area near the Garud Govind temple following a tip off.

8. ‘Drug Peddlers’ Pelt Stones, Injure Cops in Mumbai

A policeman was seriously injured while four other cops suffered minor injuries after over 20 foreign nationals allegedly attacked them with stones at Byculla on Thursday night.

According to police, the attack was a response to a raid by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) on a suspected drug deal taking place near the Byculla railway quarters. The local JJ Marg police registered an attempt to murder case against the accused.

An officer said the incident took place around 9:30 pm when the Worli ANC received a call from locals about drug dealers operating near the railway quarters.

9. Pune: Congress Corporator From Ahmednagar, Four Others Held ‘With Rs 3 Crore in Banned Notes’

Pune City Police has arrested five persons, including a Congress corporator from Sangamner in Ahmednagar district, for allegedly being in possession of about Rs 3 crore in banned old currency, from Raviwar Peth in Pune on Thursday night.

The five suspects have been identified as Congress Corporator Gajendra Bajaba Abhang (47), Vijay Abhimanyu Shinde (38), Aditya Vishwas Chavan (25), Suresh Pandurang Jagtap (40) and Navnath Kashinath Bhandagale (28).
