QCrime: Delhi Biker Shot Dead; Man Linked to Khalistani Group Held

1. Biker Shot Dead for Brushing Against Car

The capital’s angry streets claimed yet another life early on Monday, 10 December, when a confrontation triggered by a 21-year-old motocyclist accidentally brushing against a parked i20 at east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar ended with one of the car’s occupants whipping out a pistol and shooting the youth dead.

The assailant also shot at two other youths accompanying the victim, Yogesh, but missed them narrowly before escaping, police said. Yogesh was hit in the abdomen and thigh, and died before reaching a hospital, police said.

Yogesh had come to a 24x7 store at Acharya Niketan market past midnight to buy juice for a cousin who was admitted in Kukreja Hospital in the locality. As he was parking the bike, it touched the side-view mirror of an i20 in which two men were allegedly drinking.

2. Man Linked to Khalistani Terror Group Held, Claims State ATS

A probe by the Pune unit of the Maharashtra ATS has found that the man arrested on last Sunday, 9 December, with a pistol and live cartridges is allegedly a member of a terrorist group linked to the Khalistani movement.

Harpal Singh Naik (42), a native of Ropar district in Punjab, was arrested by the ATS from the Chakan Shikrapur road on 2 December. He was working as a trailer driver. Besides weapons, the ATS also recovered an identity card of a corporate company, a blank cheque, an ATM card and bank account details from him. Naik was booked under the Arms Act, and remanded to police custody till December 10.

During investigation, ATS found that Naik believed in the idea of Khalistan, a separate Sikh state. “He was active on internet and allegedly used social media effectively for procuring firearms and inciting youths for carrying out terror attacks in country,” stated a press release issued by the ATS on Monday, 10 December.

3. Jailed Gangster’s Partner Killed at Dwarka Residence

The live-in partner of a jailed ‘gangster’ was gunned down by two men at her home in Pochanpur village near west Delhi’s Dwarka on Monday, 10 December, morning. The police suspect that the murder was a fallout of an ongoing gang war.

Police said the men arrived on a motorcycle, barged in through the ajar doors of the house and emptied at least half-a-dozen bullets into the woman, Kamlesh Singh, who was seated on the sofa. “The killers were done in less than 30 seconds,” Anto Alphonse, deputy commissioner of police (Dwarka), said.

Forty-five-year-old Kamlesh was in a live-in relationship with Rajiv alias Monu, who has been in jail for the last six months, the DCP said. Kamlesh is survived by her 22-year-old daughter, now married, and 18-year-old son, who aspired to be a doctor.

4. Woman Shot at in Husband’s Presence

A 28-year-old woman, who was returning after dropping her children to school, was shot at by two men outside her house in Mahipalpur on Monday, 10 December, the police said. They said that the two accused were accompanied by her husband.

Victim Kavita’s family alleged that their son-in-law, with whom their daughter has an estranged relationship for the past two years, threatened to kill her after she had approached the village panchayat with a complaint of torture against him.

The incident was reported at around 9 am when Kavita was returning home in Mahipalpur village after dropping her children at a private school near her residence. She was allegedly waylaid in the lane outside her house.

5. E-Wallet Cheats Dupe Cop, Others

If you are getting calls from someone claiming to be a relative of your colleague or a superior asking for an urgent transfer of money on Paytm, verify before you make the transaction.

A Crime Branch inspector was duped by crooks posing as ACP recently after which three members of the gang were caught by the cyber cell.

The accused —Yousaf, Shakir and Ravi — would pick up random numbers and get details about it on Truecaller and Facebook. They then posed as someone known to the target and would get money transferred to their Paytm account.

6. Elderly Couple Held at Gunpoint Inside House

An elderly couple was allegedly held hostage at gunpoint in their west Delhi’s home and robbed of cash and jewellery worth around Rs 45 lakh by two men on Sunday, 9 December, the police said on Monday, 10 December.

The couple was also assaulted by the accused in their Punjabi Bagh residence, they said. The accused ransacked the house and locked the couple in the kitchen before fleeing with the valuables, the police said. The robbers also took away the digital video recorder of CCTV cameras installed in the house, they said. One of the victims has been identified as 65-year-old Girdhari Lal, who runs a finance company.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sameer Sharma said a case of robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Punjabi Bagh police station after a complaint was filed by Mr. Lal.

7. Man Creates Chaos in Village, Gets Killed; Accused in Jail but Identity of Dead Man Still a Mystery

At 9.30 pm on Monday, 10 October, a naked man created havoc in the tiny village of Zari in Palghar district’s Talasari town. Within 15 minutes, he barged into a home, causing the women there to flee, broke through the door of another house after being trapped inside, before he was hit on the neck with a sickle by a farmer leading to his death. While the accused is in jail, no one knows the name of the man who died.

The village where the incident took place is located along the Talasari-Umbergaon Road near Gujarat border.

Later, police found a bicycle that was parked 200 m away from the village, a white shirt and pair of black trousers lying on the ground near it. “We don’t even know whether the cycle and the clothes belonged to the deceased. He came to the village out of nowhere,” said Inspector Kailas Barve, Talasari police station.

8. Rape, Cheating Case in Mumbai: NRI Doctor Acquitted

A sessions court on Monday, 10 December, acquitted a 44-year-old NRI doctor of rape and cheating, six years after he was booked on the complaint of a 37-year-old NRI woman in Colaba.

The doctor and the complainant were both followers of Nityanand Ashram. In 2012, the complainant had lodged an FIR at Colaba police station alleging that the accused had “mesmerised her” and had sexual relations with her in a sedated state on the pretext of “spiritual guidance.” The FIR also stated that the complainant’s husband had lodged a complaint of adultery against the doctor. But the doctor, applying for bail in 2012, stated that the FIR was lodged belatedly after four years and out of a “vendetta.”

In her complaint, the victim had stated that she was raped in 2008 when she went to the doctor’s residence for treatment. She further stated that he had “brainwashed” her into believing that he had supernatural powers, subsequently sedating her and raping her.

9. Five of a Gang Held for Murder, Weapons Recovered

Police arrested five members of a gang from Narpoli on Sunday, 9 December, for an alleged murder and murder bid and recovered two country-made pistols and other weapons.

Police said they were investigating a murder bid on 30-year-old Arjun Sarkar.

“The accused, 32-year-old Dulal Mandal, had shot Sarkar and while looking into this case, we discovered that he and four of his friends had formed a gang. They were also extorting money from local businessmen and were wanted for a murder in Shahpur,” said a senior police official.

The other accused were identified as Hiraman Gangwasi, Beniram Nuner, Rajesh Kalicharan Karotia and Prabhakar Singh.
