1. Crazy Mohan Dies, and With Him an Era of Comedy and Theatre
Crazy Mohan, Tamil playwright, screenwriter, comedian and actor suffered a cardiac arrest and died at 2 pm on Monday, 10 June. With the 66-year-old’s demise, the era of Tamil comedy theatre and comedy in Tamil films comes to an abrupt end.
Crazy Mohan’s first foray into cinema was as the screenwriter for K Balachander’s Poikkal Kuthirai (1983). Balachander had an eye for spotting exceptional talent – Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan... who went on to become legends in their own right.

2. Heatwave to Continue in the City till Thursday
It has been over two weeks since peak summer season — also known as ‘Agni Natchathiram’ — ended. But Chennai continues to be in the firm grip of a heatwave. The Meteorological Department has forecast that several parts of north Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, would experience relentless heat till Thursday.
For the third day in a row, Chennai and its suburbs sizzled as the temperature peaked above 40 degree Celsius. On Monday, both the weather stations at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 41.5 degree Celsius. The Meteorological Department has advised people not to expose themselves to direct sunlight between 11 am and 4 pm.

3. New Medical Curriculum to Roll out from This Year
The year 2018 saw major changes in the medical education sector with the Medical Council of India (MCI) announcing its decision to revamp the MBBS curriculum after 21 years. This academic year, to commence from August 2019, will see medical students learn a new syllabus placing more emphasis on mental health, public health, as well as on communication skills.
A meeting was convened at the Kilpauk Medical Hospital and College on Monday to discuss the changes in the syllabus and to train the faculty in Curriculum Implementation Support Programme (CISP). Subjects and topics focussed on moral and ethical values, communication with patients and empathetic approach have been included.

4. Metro Rail Dumping Debris in Thiruneermalai Quarry?
The construction debris from the Chennai Metro Rail’s sites where work is going on is collected and dumped illegally on the waterbed in a quarry at Thiruneermalai along the Chennai Bypass Road. Locals and residents said that this activity had been happening since construction of Phase-I stretch that started in 2011.
The Thiruneermalai quarry is one of the few structures in the city that still holds a good amount of water. As a handful of lorries have been depositing debris into the quarry’s waterbed on a daily basis for the past eight years, the accumulated debris resembles a small mountain now.

5. One Dead as Man, Wife, Girlfriend Attempt Suicide
A 38-year-old man who attempted suicide with his wife, daughter and girlfriend at a lodge in Triplicane on Sunday night died the next day. The others are in critical condition.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that Jegath and Saranya (26), who were in a relationship, decided to elope to Chennai. However, his wife found out about the plan and told him that she could not live without him and convinced him to take her as well. A week ago, Jegath, his wife, daughter and Saranya, came to Chennai and checked into a lodge at Triplicane” said a police officer. The doctors said the four had soft drinks laced with poison.
