Parts of northern and western Bengaluru received heavy localised rainfall of about 55 mm in the early hours of Thursday, 10 October.
Doddaabidarakallu lake in Nagasandra in north Bengaluru, breached its capacity, causing water logging in low lying areas – Bhavani Nagar, Annapoorneshwari Layout, Munneshwara Layout and Andanappa Layout – BBMP Commissioner Anil Kumar told The Quint.
Kumar said that an immediate relief of Rs 10,000 has been announced for every family affected by the rains.
“Our revenue officials will go door-to-door and asses the damage per house. We have arranged food supplies and drinking water for the affected,” Kumar added.
Kumar said that about 20 complaints were received from RR Nagar and Dasarahalli, adding that they were not major and have already been taken care of.
Meanwhile, a diversion channel has been created to clear water from the roads and into the storm water drains. Efforts to repair the breaks in the storm water drain network to prevent future leaks are underway. JCBs are at work to clear the resultant silt from the roads.
“Our solid waste management teams and other officials are working to bring the situation to normal in the area. The rain was not widespread and has only affected a few areas as the rain was localised and very heavy,” the commissioner said.
