While demanding bodies of terrorists killed during Kupwara encounter, a protester was killed in Panzgam area.
At around 4 am, the terrorists entered the army camp. Two terrorists were neutralised while one managed to escape, reported ANI.
There are two layers of fences around the camp, and the distance between both is about 50 to 75 metres. The fences were cut by the terrorists as they entered from the backside of the firing range, reported ANI. The first to be targeted was the officer’s complex.
Combing operations are still on to ascertain if any militant managed to sneak into the camp under the cover of darkness, official sources said.
Three AK-47s, two GPS devices and one mobile phone has been recovered from the site of the attack. The terrorists were wearing combat jackets and black pathani suits, as CNN-News18 reports.
Nirmal Kumar Singh, the Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir alleged that Pakistan was behind the terror attack. He said that India will “definitely reply in the same terms”.
The attack happened at a site 10 km from the Line of Control (LoC).
Defence Minister Arun Jaitley has been briefed about the attack that took place on the Kupwara Army camp, India Today reported.
Stone pelting takes place in Tragpora, a little further away from the Kupwara terror attack site in Jammu and Kashmir, reports CNN-News18.
Security forces are trying to bring the situation under control.
The five injured soldiers from the Kupwara Army camp were airlifted to Army's 92 base hospital in Srinagar for treatment.
Defence Ministry spokesperson, Colonel Rajesh Kalia confirmed that five people, of which three were from the Indian Army, and two terrorists, were killed in the attack on the Army camp in Kupwara.
At least five jawans have been injured in the attack on the Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara.
A Captain and two others have been killed in the militant attack in Kupwara. More casualties are feared.
Militants today attacked an army camp in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, killing three personnel, including a captain, and leaving five soldiers injured. Two suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed militants were killed in the retaliatory action.
A defence spokesman said that the militants attacked the army camp at Panzgam in Kupwara, 100 kms from Srinagar, at 4 am.
Three army personnel, including an officer, were killed by the assailants before the two militants were killed, the spokesman said.
The deceased officer has been identified as Capt Ayush but the names of the two soldiers were not immediately known, official sources said.
The personnel at the camp are involved in road opening duties in the area.
