Acclaimed Hindi Writer Krishna Sobti Passes Away At 93
The 93-year-old writer had won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1980 for her novel Zindaginama.
Eminent Hindi author and essayist Krishna Sobti died on Friday, 25 January, in Delhi, family sources told PTI. She was 93.
The author breathed her last at a Delhi hospital where she was admitted for the last two months, Ashok Maheshwari, a friend and Managing Director of Rajkamal Prakashan publication, said on Friday.
"For the last one week, she was in the ICU," he told PTI.
Born in 1925, Sobti was known for writing about issues of female identity and sexuality.
She had won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1980 for her novel Zindaginama and was awarded the Jnanpith in 2017 for her contribution to Indian literature.
Sobti was also offered Padma Bhushan, which she had declined.
