National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah while speaking at the mega Opposition rally in Kolkata on Saturday, 19 January, called EVM the “chor machine” and demanded that the ballot paper system be brought back for the sake of transparency.

‘Not Ousting Modi, But Saving Country’

The NC leader said the motive is not to oust a single person, but to save the country.

“It is not the question of ousting any single person (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) but of saving the country and honouring the sacrifices of those who fought for its freedom.”

‘People Divided on Religious Lines’

Blaming BJP for the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq said people are being divided on religious lines.

“I am a Muslim and I love India, my country”

‘EVM is A Chor Machine’

Farooq urged the Opposition parties to approach the Election Commission and the President of India to replace EVMs with old ballot papers for transparency.

“The EVM is a chor machine. Honestly speaking, it is so. Its use must be put to an end. Nowhere in the world is the machine used. The Opposition parties should approach the Election Commission and the President of India to stop the use of EVMs and bring back the old ballot papers for the sake of transparency.”

Farooq urged for a united fight by Opposition parties in the coming Lok Sabha election, and said the prime minister can be decided on after the poll results.
