3 Family Members Killed as 4-Storey Building Collapses in Kolkata

A four-storey dilapidated building in central Kolkata's Burrabazaar area, the biggest wholesale hub of eastern India, collapsed on Tuesday, killing three members of a family. The three victims – an aged couple and their middle-aged daughter – were trapped inside a room when the building collapsed, the police said.

According to ANI, the death toll in the building collapse has risen to three.

1 Dead in Burrabazaar Building Collapse

One person was killed in the building collapse in central Kolkata's Burrabazar area on Tuesday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Tara Prasanna Saha, a 94-year-old.

Sobha Rani Saha (84) and her daughter Beauty (56) were critically injured in the mishap. The injured have been transferred to a hospital for treatment.

The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained. According to reports, Kolkata Municipal Corporation workers have been deployed at the spot. Rescue operations are underway.

Building Was Allegedly Marked as "Dangerous"

The building in question was allegedly marked as “dangerous”. The area was cordoned off and the building evacuated.
