Two men have been arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a minor in Pipari, in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district on 9 April, Monday.

Jagdish, 25, and Munna, 24, have been booked under rape and murder charges. The accused allegedly lured the 7-year-old to sit on their bicycle on Monday with the promise of dropping her home, The Indian Express reported.

Kaushambi Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gupta told the daily that the two youths took the child to a secluded place two kilometers away from her home, where they allegedly committed the crime.

The body of the child has been sent for post-mortem, though the police told the newspaper “Prima facie, it appears to be a case of strangulation but we will know only after the autopsy reports are out.”

The child’s parents are farm labourers and belonged to the same village as the accused.
