With the nation listening, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman K. Sivan on Saturday, 7 September, made the announcement that the ground station had lost communication with Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram lander.

PM Narendra Modi, who was present at the ISRO Centre in Bengaluru, talked to scientists after the setback saying that whatever they have achieved is not a small achievement and that the country is proud of them.

“The nation is proud of you. Hope for the best, since you have done service to the country and to the whole planet.”

A successful landing would have made India the fourth country after Russia, the US and China to achieve a soft landing on the moon.
