Amid the row over Jallikattu, five time World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand extended his support to those protesting against the ban on the bull taming sport.

He took to Twitter to urge the authorities to respect Jallikattu, which he called a cultural symbol.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who took up the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier on Thursday, had said that his government would take steps to hold the banned event with the backing of the Centre.
