In a hurriedly called press briefing in New Delhi – soon after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security – Director General Military Operations Lt General Ranbir Singh confirmed surgical strikes across the Line of Control (LoC) on late Wednesday night.

The counter-terrorist operations come in the wake of an attack on the Army headquarters in Uri on 18 September that resulted in the killing of 19 soldiers.

The Wednesday attack resulted in "significant casualties", Singh said.

So, How Were the Surgical Strikes Carried Out?

"The strikes were carried out based on specific and credible information," Singh said in the press briefing.

At least seven terror launch pads were destroyed by the Indian Army across the LoC, according to the Army sources. And Indian Army special forces were para-dropped, they said.

“At least 38 terrorists and two Pakistani soldiers were killed in Indian Army surgical strikes, but no Indian casualties. Those killed included terrorists, their guides and handlers”, The Economic Times reported quoting media sources.

The operation on terror launch pads lasted from 12.30 am till 4.30 am. The terror launch pads targeted were in the range of 2 to 3km from the LoC and were under surveillance for over one week, the sources said.

The sources added that surgical strikes on Pakistani terror camps belonged to multiple terror groups, and no Indian casualties were reported.
