In a joint address with the Swiss President, Narendra Modi said that exchange of information is important and that it would lead to successful Indo-Swiss collaborations.

The Indian Prime Minister also commented on the economic relations of the two countries and said:

The economic links between our two countries are strong and vibrant. I invite Swiss companies to be a key partner in India’s economic growth. Early start to negotiations on the agreement on automatic exchange of information would be important in this respect.

Ahead of his five-nation tour, Modi had described Switzerland as India’s key partner in Europe.

In Geneva, I will meet prominent businesspersons. Our agenda will be to expand economic and investment ties. I will meet Indian scientists working at CERN. India takes pride in their contribution to exploring new frontiers of science in the service of humanity.

On the black money issue, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar said in a pre-departure media briefing that India has already been in touch with the Swiss government under the double taxation avoidance agreement (DTAA) mandate. India hoped “to engage as early as possible in the automatic exchange of information with Switzerland”, he added.

Monday’s discussions may also focus on renewable energy and vocational education, two sectors Switzerland is strong in. Switzerland is India’s fifth largest trade partner and 11th largest investor.

After his engagements in Switzerland, the Prime Minister will proceed to the US later on Monday, followed by Mexico on Wednesday. Modi had arrived in Qatar on Saturday from Afghanistan.
